Staining on a pastel purse pen

Is there a way to get ink stains off of a pink/peach pastel purse pen. I have one from a purchase of a lot of several pens. There seems to be ink between the inner and outer cap and it has stained through to the outside. There are also stains around the threads on the body. These match up with the stains on the cap. Any suggestions, or is it hopeless? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Lots of scrubbing and soaking followed by a few rounds of ink-remover. If you are lucky you will get the pen back to a satisfactory state. For cleaning the cap it is usually necessary to remove the inner-cap first but not until the cap has had a good soak.

The CH series does stain easy and this is one reason clean pastels sell higher on a regular basis.

Scrubbing and soaking with what? I don't want to ruin the pen completely. Mild dishwashing (not dishwasher) detergent? OxiClean?

Soap and water first. Then soak 10% household ammonia. I put the barrel threads down in enough to cover the staining. Try to keep the ammonia away from the metal parts.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that...

One of my Esterbrook Nurse Pens had red ink stains around the threads and I was able to get 80% of it off with regular dishwashing liquid.

However, I think a lot also depends on what kind if ink it was: Some inks stain worse than others.

I had a pink pastel with moderate staining. Scrubbing with INK NIX removed most of it. No damage to the pen.

Can you soak the pen in dishwashing liquid and water, or is it better to just scrub?

If you soak, remove the J-bar and the lever.

I scrubbed, with piece of sponge wrapped round my fingernail.

Whatever you use, be super careful when cleaning or working on the cap. Pastel Esties are very prone to cap lip cracks as they are quite brittle.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
