I just ordered a bottle of Bleu Pervenche.

What do you like?

I currently have in rotation Bleu Myosotis, Eclat de Saphir, Vert Empire, Poussiere de Lune and Cacao du Bresil.

I tried, and really wanted to like Cafe des Iles and Lie de The, but they were just too light with the fine nibs I like to use.

The Herbins really are lovely inks. Well behaved in every pen I've ever tried them in, quick drying, not prone to feathering. The only problem I've had is the lack of saturation displayed by some of the colors.

Currently Inked: Visconti Pericle EF : Aurora Black; Pilot VP-F (Gunmetal): X-Feather; Pilot VP-F (LE Orange): Kiowa Pecan; Lamy Safari EF: Legal Lapis

Wishlist (WTB/T) - Pelikan "San Francisco"

Perle Noire is my black ink of choice. I've gone back to it after every other black I've tried.

Bleu Nuit is a wonderful blue-black IMO, although I don't often use BBk inks these days.

As above,i like Cacao du Bresil,Le de The and especially Vert Olive.

I tried a sample of the Vert Olive. It's just a shade I never really warmed up to, but it's hard, really, to explain why. Just a matter of preference, I guess. The Olive just has that yellowish tinge that I can't quite get used to.

I am, however, very happy with the new green Herbin just released. The Vert Empire. Fast becoming my favorite green.

Ooh, me me me. I consider Violette Pensee and Rose Cyclamen to be signature colors for me. Cafe de Iles is a wonderful 'antique' tone, Lierre Savage a great green... They're just happy things in general.

Hooked on Cacao de Bresil. Has a lovely antique color I love - very soothing when reading back thru notes.

I love J Herbin inks :)

Poussière de Lune is my favorite Herbin but I also like and Lie de Thé, Vert Olive and I'm set to try Larme de Cassis!

So far every Herbin inks I tried had incredible shading, so they work wonders with italic nibs!

I'm looking to get an orange and was set to get Caran D'Ache Saffron, how is Orange Indien?

I very much like some of the Herbin inks!

My favorites are:

Eclat de Saphir

Violette Pensee

Rose Cyclamen

Ambre de Birmanie

The amber washes out of pens very easily and often use it as a testing ink for that reason. I also keep my Pelikan Citroenpers M200 inked with it. I use Herbin's Vert Pre as a mixer.

Best, Ann

Poussiere de Lune for me, but I haven't had the chance to try any other colours...

No one sells them here in Singapore :( Had to ask a friend to get a bottle of PdL for me while she was travelling.

I've been using Rose Cyclamen and Violette Pensee and really enjoy those colors.

I have these too, and really enjoy them. I like them as editing inks more than regular writing inks, so I like the way they pop out from the original document.

I want Poussiere de Lune next.

It would be great to see a scan of these two inks. Is the Perle Noire dark like Aurora Black, or is it lighter like Waterman Black? What does the Bleu Nuit look like? Does it have greenish elements? Gray tones?

So far I have only used Terre de Feu and Bleu Myosotis.

I like both of these...both are a bit on the pale side but they grow on one.

Nice flow and very fast drying compared to the PR inks.

Some of the new ones (4 new colors) look very nice.

I want to try more of them...

I like the two J.Herbin inks I've tried so far.

I like Cacao du Brésil best - great grey-brown colour and shading. Occasionally shows as a warm grey only (very little brown) on some papers in a dry nib.

I also like Lie de Thé, which in some nibs on some papers looks very similar to Noodler's Golden Brown but behaves differently. On the plus side it is less likely to cling to the sides/top of a converter and it dries more rapidly, while on the minus side it is more likely to feather and bleed-through on some paper. Not a huge problem, the biggest drawback is that shallow bottle with some longer nibs. Might have to investigate a Visconti travelling inkwell thingy. In other nib/paper combinations the two inks can be quite distinct.

Nice to see some browns which aren't so red, although reddish-browns also have their place.

Regards, Myles.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
