FS: Cross Townsend Malachite Green ON HOLD

Hi, some of you may have seen the size of my growing collection of FPs in the Pictures & Photos forum, so I have decided to let go a few of my pens slowly.

I have for sale here, a Cross Townsend Malachite Green Fountain Pen in Medium size nib.

The pen is almost new, purchased recently and only inked once for me to try. The nib is very smooth and lays a nice line, but is a bit too wide for my tastes since I prefer a finer nib. The pen has a very nice green and black finish, smooth to touch but with a slight texture following the lines. Rhodium trim and with Cross engraved on the clip in script, and CROSS USA engraved on the back of the cap. Gold tone medium nib with Cross engraved.

Converter and 2 black Cross cartridges included. I don't have the original box, but I can put the pen in a random Cross box that I got with my Verve (which I don't believe was the correct box for either, the Verve didn't fit in it). Please state your preference to have this box when buying, it might affect shipping cost.

I'm not sure how much this is worth, but I believe the RRP of Cross Townsend with two-tone gold nibs are $230, while gold plated nibs are only $125. I am offering this pen here today for $70 plus shipping at cost (which will be roughly $10 excl insurance).

Standard disclaimers, please send me email or PM to purchase this pen. First person to contact gets it. I hold no responsibility for damage or loss during shipping without insurance. Would be happy to give refund if there are problems with the pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
