This is Journal 158A "OM-4Ti" completed ... A6 size - the first variant of #158.

The covers took longer , from the painting of the sketches ..

This is a continuation of my white series of journals.

But here, i am adding some colour to my sketches, to highlight a theme.

It started off with a sketch of my favorite camera long time ago.

As I started to turn them into covers, I drew new sketches.

I drew in a film carton tab in the rear sketch, feeling that it was a bit too 'empty'. As i thought about what film carton tab to draw, I then decided to pick something significant - in this case - KODAK film - a familiar household brand many of us grew up with.

For this journal and its variant, I decided to craft a built-in bookmark ...

Becos I thought the remaining cover paper print pattern was too nice to toss away ...

The cover is actually double-sided - making it most suitable to be used as a bookmark...

The #159 and #159A "ecriture" pair ...

The next variant will be an A6 Landscape journal , again incorporating both sides of the coverpaper.

One of the double-sided paper will form the spine accent.

Wondering which to use as the main colour - the green or the white ? :hmm1:

Matching pairs of journals can be useful for example in situations where you want to keep a log of a subject matter with a sub-theme.

Or maybe keeping a log of two opposing views on one subject matter.

This is the landscaped variant I was talking about ...

It was a toss-up as to which side to use as spine accent ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2012/2012%20Journals/Journal%20159%20ecriture/Journal%20159B%20ecriture/001.jpg

or this ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2012/2012%20Journals/Journal%20159%20ecriture/Journal%20159B%20ecriture/004.jpg

I settled on this ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2012/2012%20Journals/Journal%20159%20ecriture/Journal%20159B%20ecriture/006.jpg

Darn ! :bonk:

Some damage on the front cover.

In my haste, I ignored the necessary step to reduce the tackiness on the masking tape I was using to temporarily hold the green and white paper cover materials in place.

That paper was also thin and uncoated.

And when it gets moist from the wet glue, it temporarily softens up.

So when the tape was lifted, parts of the mulchy paper came away too.

Very costly lesson in impatience/patience.

Another pair of covers relegated to my shoebox-ful of "was-to-be" covers...

Hello, Lee!! I hope that you are well - !

I've been off of FPN for a while & getting back, now.

This is a little off-topic, but your photography is quite good - !

What camera and "gear" do you use for your photos? - which digi-cam? - lenses?

Your work continues to be beautiful, and an inspiration to me and others to jump in an try our hands at making our own Journals.

Thanks, Lee. [if you'd like, you can PM me with your photo-rig details to keep this thread "clean."]

Regards,

David K.

Hi David,

Thank you :-)

Its only a point and shoot compact camera with one window light source.

Fujifilm Finepix F200EXR (I think it's already obsolete! At the rate they are churning out digicams...)

A large sheet of medium grey paper as backdrop.

Other less sharp pics are taken with an iPhone.

Yet to own a digiSLR. (I can't get over how $expensive they are for all the electronic features (easy to make) they can do.)

That's great to know 'DavidHandmade' ....

:D

Actually, a friend of mine saw the smallest one (size A7?) and loved it right away - so, I felt "compelled" to give it to her.

So, now, one of the Set is off traveling on its own, with a new "Owner."

Aw .. that's mighty generous of you ... :D

if i had known earlier, I would have suggested you gift her a A7 size of another design.

I actually have 3 or 4 of these mint and unused A7 sized journals , waiting to "fulfil their destiny".

They are really cute and tiny but for the longest time, i have been wondering how it can be of practical use.

Let me search for the pics ....

Ok - Well...I can try to reach her & find out whether or not she's started writing in it, yet; and I suppose that I could trade her another A7 - but she loved the "map" concept and wanted to use it for her trip to Slovakia...

This is a commission for a couple of journals to commemorate Fountain Pen Day 2012 - the very first year !

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2011/2012/2012%20Journals/Journal%20160%20FPD/DSCF8403.jpg

The original artwork A5 size ...

I sketched the pens beside me after a morning of meddling with ink ...

Drawn with

- a ROSETTA North Star with an <M> nib reground by pb2 into a CI;

- same pen but with a <B> nib reground by pb2 into a CI also ;

- PILOT Elabo (metal body) <SF> nib

NOODLERS X-Feather (black ink)

This is a DIY pad made of Sugarcane Bagasse paper by CANEFIELDS , 80gsm , white.

A4 size cut into half , then I glued the top edge, turning it into a pad.

(surprisingly takes ink with no bleedthru or feathering, Pity it isnt smoother, otherwise Perfect !!! )

This will become part of my white series of journals ....

Do support FP Day , an initiative by one of our FPNers ... :clap1:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
