Real Pen Or Ad Prop?

Mercedes Benz is running a commercial in this weekend's Super Bowl that prominently features a fountain pen. Is this a real model or just something cobbled together by the ad agency? Inquiring minds want to know...

I've got some similar pens but drive a Mazda :headsmack: My picture was taken for another post about using fountan pens as dip pens so ignore the writing. I believe that style of pen was very early 20th century. Search Paul Wirt and you'll see some more.

Who'd have thought the Devil was one of us? Cute commercial. That pen is probably one of the cheap no name models but they were made at lot's of price points.

Might even be a Pregnant Parker MOP Pen! A fellow Pen friend 'Mantiques' often provides the movie and television industry with real vintage pens to be used as props.

Odd, I didn't have all that trouble back when I owned a Benz....

Get an Audi, and tell them you want a Pelikan 1000 for signing the dotted line.

Audi has a nice little V-8 my wife wants. The least they can do is throw in that Pelikan.

If I had to have a German car, it would be an Audi, MB and BMW are just too... cold and sterile.

There is no simple answer as to why I write longhand.

I write very slowly and like to watch the ink soak into the

wood pulp. I find it an organic process.

LOL it sort of looks like a jinhao China Confucius :ltcapd:

Do not let old pens lay around in a drawer, get them working and give them to a new fountain pen user.

Have to disagree with you--his has a full gold cap and gold overlay on the barrel;your

fleabay example doesn't have a gold cap and has mother-of-pearl inlay on the barrel.

I suspect it's a cheap knockoff.............

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
