You mean we have to plan our usual strategy of winging it?

:-D

Your strategy is good but if you drive your arms will not be tired when you get there.

Will you bring The Mother?

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

Lisa, the Mother, the 405.

Oh that would be difficult, being on the 405 with the Mother and not cussing.

I do need a strategy -- I want to find an inexpensive pen with a flex nib for drawing. Doesn't have to be crazy flex. More like Namiki Falcon flex. For $10.

Ha ha ha, I make my own self laugh.

The Sailor Desk Pen, which is more or less $10 -- can't I hack that with a dip nib? I would love it if I could hack that with a dip nib.

Or maybe ask John Mottishaw to add a weetle leetle flex to... which Nakaya? None of the F nibs. The Naka-ai's M? It's standard, not soft, would that be too hard to add a weetle leetle fwex?

:-D

(I don't know why I'm saying it like that. I drank two cups of coffee on an empty stomach. Could that explain it?)

Bring the desk pen tomorrow and I'll see if I can hack it. Exactly how much flex do you want?

I'm not buying the coffee explanation.

I have to admit, writing "fwex" cracked me up. :-D

Okay. I'll bring the Sailor. I'll look around for other hack candidates. Thanks, Ricky!

I totally read that as Pelikan m405, which I didn't think anyone had, because freeway numbers don't take the definite article.

I hate 405. If you take La Cienega, that's where they have See's. You can get post-VD/SAD candy on sale.

It isn't the tooth ache that bothers you, it is the constant drooling.

A word of warning. the freeways have been crazy down here since they turned some of the carpool lanes into Toll Express lanes. Take your time and try to chill out!

The SoCal locals can chime in, but when I lived down there, I learned to refer to freeways as "the 405" "the 5" etc.... It was odd, and I've never heard of it anywhere else.

What's worse, is they also have NAMES... The Santa Monica Freeway, The San Diego Freeway (which doesn't even go to San Diego) etc.

Shh, don't encourage them. And on the other side of downtown, it's the San Bernardino Freeway, right? And I5, the freeway that 405 / the San Diego Freeway is *not*, *does* go to San Diego.

I know I got raspberry hearts before, and I think the other thing was peanut butter hearts. That's the only way I get heart candy.

Yeah, traffic reporters don't help by doing the numbers sometimes and the names others.

In general odd numbered fwys trend North/South and even numbered fwys trend East/West. I say trend because our SoCal fwys are a mess!

I grew up in the LA Basin and I usually call the fwys (&*(^%*&(&^%! Of course having a 60 mile round-trip fwy drive to work 5 days a week will do that to you!!!

I think we should set Friday night for dinner.

So we need to come up with a venue large enough to handle the combined Posses. Last year's location was not idea although close to the hotel.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
