Noodler's Ink Texas Blue Bonnet

Recommended Posts

Although this ink has been described as higher maintenance, I was able to fill a pen on New Years Eve and still write with it two weeks later. (Inks tend to dry out really quickly here).

Anyway, here is a quick review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Nice review, Amberlea. This has become one of my favorite inks, and its water resistance makes it that much more useful.

On my monitor, your enlarged scans duplicate the color very well. When I look at the smaller scans, the color looks lighter than what I see on paper in front of me - closer to Benevolent Badger IMO.

TBB is a long time favorite of mine. The shading is fantastic, isn't it?

Have you looked at the underside of the nib and feed to see if anything is accumulating there? In my experience it does require cleaning from time to time, but it's nothing you can't handle. It's not going to eat your pens.

I did - I'd expected some gunk. So far, so good.

I really liked this ink when I saw it at the Las Vegas Pen Posse #1. I called Dromgoole's to order some, but was told that it is currently not available, with no anticipated resupply.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Oh no! I knew I should have bought some more once I found out how much I liked it!

Great review! I Can't wait to get a few bottles of the Dromgoole's exclusives.

When I called last week, they didn't have Texas Bluebonnet or Black Bat in stock. As good Texans, they may not ship to Oklahoma. . . .

Ok, now all I have to do is persuade my husband to drive me to Houston. Because I'm a bad driver and don't drive in any strange cities - let alone Houston traffic!

SWEET I just sent them an email request (dromgooles@sbcglobal.net) because they don't sell the ink on their site.

Edit: Side note, I'm loving the flag colors on this thread. :cloud9:

Oh, pens, all of you are my favorite! TWSBI, Jinhao, Montblanc, Waterman, Danish Penol De Luxe flexy pen, Cross, -- I can't choose between you! That would just be wrong.

Dromgoole's does ship but you are missing a real experience not going to the shop yourself. I have to laugh . Someone from Austin saying Houston traffic is bad! We have children in both cities(we live in Victoria) and it's a tossup as to which is the worst. Good luck in your trek.

I think what we need here is a road trip..... YES .... a Dromgoole's road trip.

If you are in the area and you want to go.... why not all go together ?

I dont live THAT far from Houston but i would be willing to share in gas to get there.

I have a standard cab pick-up that only seats 2 people but if someone has a car and wants to go.... I'm game. lol

its just a question of where to meet and when to go.

just an idea here....but if any FPN's want to do it.... lets talk about it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
