Baoer 507 Review

1. Appearance and design 4.5/5. I was really impressed with this baoer 507 ever since I first opened the envelope. It looks and feels like a quality product, and actually, the only cheap-looking element on it is the company name, inscribed on the nib and above the clip. Other than that, it has a design which reminds me of a pelikan- even the clip with the vertical paralel lines resembles that of a pelikan.

La piece de resistance with this pen must be the metal section with a very nice scene with horses, which has great details and a perfect finish. The characters are gently highlighted with a black stain, which ads a touch of perfection. Great to feel and to look at, the pictures don`t do it justice.

2. Construction and size 4/5. Although the baoer is about average in size, with a lenght of 13.5 cm capped and 1.3 cm in diameter, it feels substancial in the hand thanks to it`s partially metal construction and overall weight- about 32gr.

The cap is made of a thin plastic, but is rather heavy because of the metal clip and end jewel. Also, there is a white plastic tube inside which contains the closing mechanism- click-on type, very well made, makes a pronounced “click” sound when opening the pen, and requires a fair amount of pressure for this.

The barrel is made out of a thick metal and has a plastic end piece on which the user can post the cap. Posting the cap ads quite a bit of height and weight to the top, but the pen is still comfortable to hold, unposted feels very good in the hand(although due to the weight it can become fatiguing during long writing sessions). I personally don`t feel very comfortable posting on this pen because it requires some pressure to fit the cap on the end piece, and with the plastic cap, i`m afraid this might lead in time to cracks. The clip is rather stiff.

I also like the fact that the 507 has metal threads, and unlike other pens, mine doens`t have the tendency to unscrew by itself. Overall, it feels like a solid, “manly” pen and it`s definitely a quality product.

3. Nib and writing experience 3.5/5. The nib on the baoer 507 is a nice two-tone, with the ugly company name inscribed on it. It is surprinsingly smooth, with little feedback and resistance, but it writes dry and has the tendency to skip. I`m not too worried about this, because I have had other pens that acted in the same manner.

I suspect that the problem is the tines being to close, i tried without succes to insert a piece of paper between them to separate them a bit. I`m pretty sure thought that eventually i`m going to fix the problem. Even in his present state, the nib is very promising. By the way, the nib is the equivalent of a western fine.

4. Filling sistem, price and final considerations 4.5/5. The baoer 507 is a typical cartridge filler, which takes international-sized cartridges and comes with a twist-type converter which does its job.

I paid for 6.50 usd delivered for this gorgeous pen, and even though I haven`t yet solved the problem with the nib being too dry(I just received it a few hours ago), I`m very pleased with it simply because it`s so beautiful and well made, a real pleasure to just look at it.

I should have done this review after fixing the ink flow issue, but I couln`t help myself. As usual, I hope this review will be of some use for you.

Good Review

Once you open the tines a bit, it should be fine.

I have one of these pens, and while I am not too fussed about how it looks, it writes well.

I also have one of these pens. It was one of my first purchases when I started buying fountain pens about three years ago. I have always liked it. It writes well. Starts first time, every time. Never had a problem with it. The nib on mine is different (more attractive??) Apologies for the poor photo.

I too have this pen, in exactly this color. I bought it from hisnibs dot com (no affiliation, etc) and they tune every nib that leaves their premises. It shows; my pen wrote perfectly right out of its proverbial box, and still does. It is always inked with me. The only minus I would give it is the section lip, which is metal, has started corroding a little bit. But you really have to look to see it. I've had this pen for about eight months.

I, in contrast to the OP, do not find the logo unattractive, neither on the cap nor on the nib. In fact I like the utilitarian font, which contrasts nicely with the ornate barrel. Hisnibs call this pen Eight Horses, by the way, and suggest the clip is like a horses (bound) tail. The design really contains eight horses!

Too late to edit the review now, but i managed to solve the ink flow issue- now the Baoer writes like a medium, with a crayon-like feedback. Apart from that, i really have nothing to complain about in the nib/writing department.

Does this pen comes in a Baoer box?

Does this pen comes with different designed Baoer nibs? I am asking this because "rochester21" posted the nib image with one type of design; and "Lorna Reed" posted the nib image with another type of design; and on "hisnibs.com", I have seen another type of design. I am giving the link of "hisnibs.com" below which also sells this pen. The page of "hisnibs.com" which will open after clicking on the nib, contains the picture of the different parts of the pen along with the nib. Please answer my question if you have any solutions to my problem, because I am going to buy this pen very soon!
