Perop - Fp Company From Prague

Hello,

i´de like to write short description of a little known fountain pen company from Bohemia. PEROP was established in 1939 in Prague by these men: Vladimír Kaiser, Emil Kroutl, Adolf Krygar and František Zeman.

Emil Kroutl was one of three Kroutl brothers who in 1919 established Ripet company in České Budějovice. He sold his part in Ripet Co. to his brothers in second half of 1930´s. František Zeman was born in 1901 in small village near České Budějovice in South Bohemia. After his studies of Bussiness Lyceum in České Budějovice he was hired as accountant in Ripet company. He left the Ripet company in 1938 after years of successful career. About Mr.Krygar and Mr. Kaiser i have not found any facts yet. But i will.

With Ripet know-how background, these men had all chances to be successful. And they were! I was lucky to have found Mr. Zeman descendants, they still live in the same luxurious apartment that František Zeman have bought in 1940 (in fact the apt is the only thing communist haven´t stolen from them). The Perop company was very well equipped with the latest technology and machines. I have been told PEROP Co. have bought in Germany a special machine line for nib making with electrical irridium tipping. In 1940 they have won a contract paid by government to supply all kinds of State bureau offices in the country ( back then Protectorat Bohemia-Moravia). It was Mr.Zeman who later became a nib specialist and enthusiast in Perop. The company was doing very well until unfamous year 1948 when it was stolen by communist goverment. Mr. Zeman was very lucky to avoid 2 years of prison in one of puppet judicial trials with former factory owners in 1949/50. Then he was forced to work as simple worker in Tatra Co branch in Prague. In early 1960´s when life became a little bit more bearable for former factory owners, he was permitted to run small FP repair workshop in his domicile in Prague. He died of heart attack shortly after the Soviet army invaded the country..

Here is nice Perop 201, WW2 period. I have purchased this pen (and nibs) directly from František Zeman estate, it was in his possession:

Here are Perop envelopes to pack FPs to send them back to Perop for service/reparation. Those were offered me by František Zeman grandson:

A very good looking pen. Is there any chance you could show it along side some more familiar pens as a size reference?

Hello,

it is my pleasure to share it. I will progressively add descriptions of more companies from my country. Last years i was doing the research in various places, sometimes i was able to contact the owners descendants etc. I have collected interesting informations about long time extinct companies of Czechoslovakia. The job is not finished yet, some companies left very little traces behind them.

Fascinating history - sad for sure. What a gorgeous pen. Thank you so much for sharing this.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
