Montblanc Diamond Mini Review

I called this ultramarine - but i am not sure anymore. This ink is not very flashy or in your face in terms of brightness, but it has a nice understated elegance. It has very similar tonal and shading characteristics as MB's Swift - sea weed green. Just like the swift ink, it feels very antique on paper. I like it.

Oh, I like that too. Is it available at the Toronto boutique, do you know?

yeah, i think i'd go w/ calling it "ultramarine"---either way, it looks good---and if it has the characteristics of the seaweed green, i'm good w/ that---i had the same reaction to the seaweed--it feels and looks antique on paper

ultramarine :hmm1:

I'd slipped into my "Blue' phase, with out knowing it, having some five pens inked in blue; to my surprise. I'd thought Diamond had a bit of turquoisey shade to it, but ultramarine, seems more apt.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I agree that this ink is understated and elegant. It is a color that's just a bit different than other manufacturer's renderings of blue, so it feels very unique. It also writes beautifully. A really wonderful ink :)

I've drained a 30ml bottle of this since January and have stocked up with 3 additional bottles. It's my current favourite ink that I'm using in my MB149 but also in a few Parker 51s with skinny nibs which have a totally different shade.

What a shame that MB don't put these 'limited' edition inks in cartridges!

I now have one unopened bottle of MB MD as reserve. And lost two pounds by not eating.

Had to try this ink after seeing your review and love it. It's quite an unusual blue, I'm not sure how to categorize it, maybe it's in a category all it's own. Nonetheless, it's a great blue. I have my blue Platignum inked with it and the pen and the ink love each other.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
