I couldn't sleep last night even though I went to bed at 2.30am and got up at 7am to get to work. I was antsy at work, waiting for the morning to come to an end and knowing that I could be seeing many mouthwatering nakayas and meet Mr Yoshida. The morning dragged on until 2pm.... grrr. Finally i could go. I raced to Orchard Ion, where Aesthetic Bay was located and marched straight in. I saw Mr Yoshida. no offense but he's a really tiny gentleman who was bent over a pen. :notworthy1:

i moved over to his displayed wares for sale and saw the tamenuris. I think Mr Yoshida brought over some new colour offerings from Nakaya. i spotted a lime greenish (its the pale yellow green in heki tamenuri) , a pale pink and a AO TAMENURI piccolo. Its a dark blue with green accents. Very cool and understated. Ive not seen it on the Nakaya website, so I think its a new colour. But my heart gravitated toward a SHIRO TAMENURI in piccolo form. I knew that I should have it. After what seemed like an eternity, I unwillingly put down the Ao and paid for the Shiro. I said hello to Mr Yoshida and went on explain how I liked my pen tuned. i opted for a rose gold flexible medium nib to match the brownish tones of my new pen.

Mr Yoshida fit the nib into the pen, heated it up in his little steamer machine

and proceeded to smoothen the nib with a special stone. i can;t remember the name of the stone. Leigh Reyes does. I need to ask her again when i go back tomorrow to watch the master at work.

Here are some of the pens on display. I'll take more photos tomorrow

The final product is beautiful and the nib very very "tasty" :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01: . I can;t wait to use it in my clinics on Thursday

I'm hereby attaching some photos of my new shiro tamenuri pen which i'm immensely proud of. i'm still considering if i should also get the ao tamenuri. I think I'll mull about it over dinner :puddle:

the icing on the cake today was finding my newly ordered danitrio (thanks kevin!!) waiting for me at my doorstep.

oh happy happy days!!! :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

No better way to add even more personal value to a cherished writing instrument. Great color choice; must have been very difficult to choose.

Thank you for sharing.

The shiro-tamenuri is one of my favorite finishes! Gorgeous & congratulations!
The way you described the ao tameuri I'm shocked you didn't buy it...
Loved your photos of Mr. Yoshida and reading your Nakaya buying adventure!Posted Image

And where's the photo of your Danitrio?

P.S. There are too many "!" in my post...

You have my attention with your description of the ao-tamenuri. Could you take a picture, please?

Thanks for the great pictures and writeup, ychung! Your new shiro-tamenuri looks marvelous.

I ordered a Decapod Twist in the new ao-tamenuri - I am so excited for it to arrive (fingers crossed, by the end of December).

Once it lands, I'll post some pictures of it :)
Currently using:Too many pens inked to list, I must cut back! :) I can guarantee there are flighters, urushi, and/or Sheaffer Vac-fillers in the mix!!!

I'm excited and happy for you, Yvonne!

The shiro tamenuri is one of my favorites -- I know, I say everything is my favorite, ha ha ha, no, but seriously, the shiro tamenuri -- I call it "flan." :-)

I think I would be able to relax and have Mr. Yoshida grind a couple of my Nakayas' nibs. I mean, just to have him do it. Would it be bad form to bring a Danitrio to him?

Which Danitrio did you get? The other day, I brought out my Danitrio Fellowship which hadn't seen the light of day nor ink in... a very long time. I love the sound of the cap when I take it off or put it on -- like porcelain or some other beautiful, delicate thing.
I ink; therefore, I am

What a gorgeous pen, and what a privilege to have the nib tuned by Mr. Yoshida. Congratulations! And thanks for posting your buying experience.

I would also love to see the new tamenuri colors, if you have an opportunity to take and post photos of them.

Congratulation on your new pen and having it tuned by Mr. Yoshida makes it a very special pen. I've been trying to decide what my next Nakaya will be and you had to mention the ao tamenuri.

Not quite what I expected based on ychung's description, but interesting all the same. I think I'll wait until some better photos come out before deciding if this a finish I want.

Oh! It's a DARK BLUE with GREEN accents! I saw the photo and saw it as BLACK with BLUE accents, which I immediately wanted!

Ha ha ha.

the ao tamenuri was sold after I went back today..... oh well, saved my wallet!

it looked like a green tinge to me but I should clarify that it is more blue than green. ? aquamarine blue for lack of a better description. thanks ribbit for showing the photos. The problem with nakayas is that they are awfully hard to photograph i find. they look so much better in the flesh. I spoke to Mr Yoshida today and he says they can custom make an ascending dragon with ao tamenuri (tame sukashi) finish for me. I think it would look pretty cool with a light blue dragon on a dark blue background. He needs to check on the pricing back in Japan and get back to me. i shudder to find out but excited all the same :puddle:

i hope the lady who bought the ao tamenuri can post the photos here if she's part of fpn. mr yoshida had 2 for sale. one in piccolo and one in portable.

@ lisa: ... hairline matt over blue.... yummy

while on the topic of photos, I was very pleased to meet Leigh Reyes again this afternoon. For the uninitiated, she's like a mini celeb to those of us who follow her blog on flex pens and I was lucky to get to try out her daily carry pens. Very generous of her. So I snapped a few photos (using my iphone , sorry....) of her nakayas that she purchased. so pretty. :clap1:

Posted Image

I also note that she also bought a special trial production nakaya from tokyo a while ago. its a coffee coloured ishime which is larger than the standard piccolo. i like this one.

Posted Image

Posted Image

oh and here is my danitrio. a simple raw bamboo ebonite but with a fantastic wet writing semi flex stub nib. :cloud9: i just need to find some new "clothing" for this danitrio since its going to be one of my daily carrys. it too big to fit in any of my pen cases. again, it looks better in the flesh but I'm hopeless with photos

Posted Image

Posted Image

all in all, I'm very grateful to have had mr yoshida tune my pen and am looking forward to finalizing my next purchase soon. the killer is the wait. :gaah:

Ychung, congratulations on your beautiful pens and fabulously good time! The possibility of a slightly bigger piccolo is making it harder to resist the siren call of Nakaya. About the color of the Ao tamenuri, I thought heki was the blue-green/aqua color?

http://www.nakaya.or...11083&type=body

Should be a link to a heki pen.

Very happy for you, Yvonne -- plus dinner with Mr. Yoshida! How great is that?!

Maybe he will come to the LA Pen Show, and we will have a chance to meet and fete him.

I'm vaguely remembering that he or maybe it was a gentleman from Sailor visited John Mottishaw's "shop" was it last August? Hm....

And Leigh Reyes, too! She and a couple of other members got me curious about Nakaya. :-)
