Diamine Majestic Blue

This is a well-known deep blue with a heavy, bright red sheen. I found it to be mostly well behaved and a beautiful looking ink on the page.

While it's not on the top of my list, a bottle will definitely end up on my ink shelf. :) And I will have some sheen pictures to put up as soon as I can.

Impressive review...... was rather put off Majestic by caveats expressed elsewhere about 'dry time' and 'effort needed to flush pens'..... However, a couple of months back I decided to throw caution to the wind and added a sample bottle to my order...... I am glad I did as the positives [colour, shading, sheen etc] outweigh the negatives by some margin.

I was sufficiently impressed to award Majestic a place in my 'blue keeper stash'. It now sits in a 80ml bottle alongside by other keeper blues.....Diamine's Kensington, ASA, Royal, Minty, China and Eau de Nil and Herbin's EdS.

BTW....your recent review of Sailor's Sky High is tempting me, perhaps that's one I could put in my letter to Santa!

Best wishes,

Falcon

My original experiences of this, with the drying/smearing issues I was getting, made me put the bottle at the back of the desk. However, I' recently tried it again and love the colour and everything else you point out in yet another great review. Also I realised that if I'm careful, the only people who might suffer the smudging are my letter recipients - so, tough!!!!!

Hi,

Many thanks for giving us another look at this ink.

It is interesting to see that it runs quite well at such high densities as you've depicted. It may be a candidate for dip pen use!

+1

When writing personal correspondence with DMBl, I use a dry-ish pen and wider margins; for pro forma personal business bumph, I use a wet pen and narrow margins.

I've tried this ink.

I have a half full bottle that I stopped using.

Why.....?????

This ink clogs pens.....!!!!!

.... and it smears too.....

So, if you don't have a problem with cleaning and unclogging

your pens regularly, then this ink is for you.

If you do, then 'Majestic Blue' would probably work better as

a Dip Pen type ink.

Hmm, I've had no clogging at all. I've never even had start up problems. Yes, it is subject to smearing, but I have found it to be well behaved and beautiful from any nib.

Thank you for bringing this divine ink to current conscious thought again. I love Majestic blue. I have it in a fine to medium Sheaffer and I just love it. The red sheen is spectacular, especially when it just shimmers in stolen shards of light when the paper is moved whilst reading. Heaven

Curious, how diluted is the ink?

I'm afraid I couldn't tell you. My method for getting the diluted samples is run the pen until it won't dry (usually after I finish writing the reviews I'l write in an ink journal until it's dry) and then pull a bit of water into the pen. Then I put the piston in its "full" position and make sure all the water and ink have mixed, push out about a drop to clear the feed of any leftover water, write a few sentences to make sure it isn't too diluted, and then do the sample.

Ah. I was just wondering if you work with specific ratio.

Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I always enjoy your review as it employs different nibs, you have great handwriting, you post great pictures and it has comparisons.

Hello everybody

I have 4 bottles of this ink and I am pretty fed up with this inks behavior with the pens.

I have tested this ink in two of my pens the ffirst one if Twisbi Vac 700 and the other one is

Lamy Safari and in both the pens this ink dries and block the ink flow and when I try to

restart the ink flow by scratching the nib on the paper couple of times the ink flow do get started

but the pen starts to skip frequently.

I do want to know if you all also had this problem and if so then what did you guys do ?

Thanks

Akz

I'm afraid I've had the same experience you have with this ink. I want to love it and go all gangbusters buying a half dozen bottles, but the flow issues are a major concern and the dry times aren't exactly the best either...

So what did you do before throwing away the bottles,

because I am so in a mood of throwing these bottles away from my pens?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
