Rohrer & Klingner Halianthus

Here's my review of Rohrer & Klinger Halianthus. It's a pretty nice colour, very unique. It could be used for mark-up easily as well as for art purposes, don't know about everyday ink though, I suppose some would like it. It's a very well behaved ink, easy to clear, writes well (if a little on the dry side). I was hoping for something that's a little darker, but still a real nice ink.

Here's the water resistance test. For this I wrote on a small Rhodia pad and after letting the ink dry for several minutes I ran it under tap water for a few seconds. Note that the writing at the bottom of the paper is not the ink, that is Rohrer & Klingner Salix that I use to label the sample.

It's a beautiful colour - warm, classy, honey - makes me think of William Morris prints. But I have to agree that it wouldn't be much use for any kind of writing, too exhausting to read. Thanks for sharing a really interesting review :)

I had a bottle once and it is indeed a wonderful orangeish yellow. I do miss it. I found it good for headings with something like a 1.5mm nib, but for general use I've settled on Noodler's Apache Sunset as a practical, readable colour, though it's more of a yellowish orange, going on red in some pens, and very slightly browner. Diamine Sunshine Yellow would be worth exploring, too - or Herbin Ambre de Birmanie, for something a bit different.

Which Morris prints, by the way? I can only think of Compton and Pomegranate.

Thanks for this review, I've been wondering about this ink. Try looking at DeAtramentis Ghandi for a slightly darker and redder ink. DeA Gold is a little easier to read than Helianthus seems to be.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
