Please read: Security leak (fixed currently)

Dearest Members of our Fountain Pen Nut House,

Due to a security leak in the board software, someone injected a link to a phishing scam site into a message here, in order to collect member ids and passwords. Essentially, upon entering one of two specific topics, an error screen was brought up indicating there was an error, asking to re-enter member id and password, on a rather badly designed login type page, with the error message above it.

The leak has been fixed by Invision, and the fix was installed, and a bunch of other security measures executed such as deep level file scans on the server. However, there may be more topics compromised, we don't know yet. If you do encounter such a topic, please report it directly to our admin "wimg", backchannel. He will deal with these issues, if there still are any.

We suggest you all select a different skin than the default one, and actually we have done so for you already. All IPB Default skins have been reset to Vault. This makes the scam extremely recognizable, as it is done in the IP Board default skin - to get a screen from a different skin for error and other messages than the one in use is impossible.

We also suggest that anybody having used a misformed login screen upon encountering this error to change their passwords asap. There can't have been many people who would have been caught, as this was fortunately caught very early on. There are likely no more than 5 or 6 members at most who could have fallen into this trap, we believe, based on views of these two topics, and only if they did re-enter their passwords of course. The miscreant on this site who did this has been dealt with as well.

We are working with INvision to see if there are other measures to be taken, and we will keep you informed.

Warm regards,

The FPN Admin Team

I was wondering why my screen looked so different! I am glad that I could find the notice of the problem and why my screen looks this way. And thanks for being on top of this phishing.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
