Great review! I find this a very pleasant... Red? Coagulating blood red? Maybe it's just me.

Good day to you Count Pseudo88la...! Yes reddish, a little less saturated than coagulating blood - although I have very little exp of that! Thank you for dropping by and your kind comments.

I think this ink colour falls into the terracotta to brick red range, like the lighter J. Herbin "terre de feu".

I would agree with terracotta, albeit slightly darker. I haven't had the pleasure of the J. Herbin ink you mention. Would you have both for a quick side by side comparison?

Great review, I picked up a bottle of this ink myself this afternoon. I've been looking for an ink to match Rotring's brown/maroon that I could use in my Ahab and spoke to the company by phone, as I live only 10 minutes away they suggested I call in with a sample and they'd try to match it to one of their range. They were really helpful and tested a few inks before settling on this and another ink that doesn't have a name yet. A great company and from what I've seen of their inks they produce a great product too :-)

Hi Andy, thank you for your kind comments. How very exciting to be able to visit Diamine!! I would absolutely love to go there and see how the inks are produced and even create my own...!:eureka:

Nice review. I tend to agree on "terracotta". I like this ink, but find Diamine Chocolate Brown much much more to my taste.

Hi, thank you. Yes I agree with the terracotta, albeit slightly darker. I absolutely love Diamine Chocolate Brown which I find incredibly well behaved.

lovely dark red  thanks for the review

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

They might consider renaming it "Rusty Brown". As an aficionado of red-brown inks, I like it.

Thank you! Be warned, it has deep brown tones to the red which works very well indeed.

I agree although I find no orange hues for true representation of rustiness. I'm glad you like it, me too! It really is very special.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
