You wrote "the blue agate... the purple really is better in person". So... does the blue agate look more purple in person or is there a lot of purple in it that shows up more in person than in photos?

Sorry for the confusion. I didn't make it very clear in what I wrote that I have two pens, the Blue Agate and the Amethyst Ice. The Amethyst is hard to photograph and show how pretty it really is.

So, the Blue Agate is not purple at all. I was reviewing two pens of the same model.

I have a blue agate also. The pen is tiny. The smallest I own besides a Stipula Passaporto. I do like the pen, it is a good writer.

Maybe this will help with getting a feel for the size. The photo shows:

Thanks for the review. I have been considering one of these pens and your review has helped.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

In your photo the purple one looks a tiny bit smaller than the blue. Are they the same or is there a difference?

Also - could you take a shot of those same pens with the caps off?

Thanks!

very nice review and nice pen  thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

They are the same size. I'll try to get another photo this afternoon. I really wish I had a better camera.

And you can use Goulet's pen Plaza to show three pens that they carry at once to compare them visually. http://www.gouletpens.com/Pen_Plaza_s/1295.htm

And Binder's site does something similar (but with a ruled background), but the Edison Nouveau Encore is a Goulet exclusive. See http://www.richardspens.com/pens/compare.htm

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
