Montblanc Jonathan Swift Seaweed Green

Tonight

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I received this ink a few days back, and finally got this review up on the forum.

On top of my pens and inks, the tools that I used for the reviews are my iPhone 4S and the new iPad. The iPhone to take pictures and the iPad as a base. The biggest thithing that I learnt from doing this review is that a glossy iPad cover makes for good background when taking pictures of bottle inks.

Appearance of Packaging

The box is green with a Silver Montblanc logo on the top. The front side has the words: "Jonathan Swift Ink", while the side tells you that it is Seaweed Green.

The bottle is unique and unlike the generic glass bottles that had prevail for the MST Diamond, Hitchcock, as well as the Ink of Love, Friendship and Joy. However, it looks to be the same as the Carlo Collodi except with another label pasted on it. As such, it too contains 35ml of ink.

Colour

While I don't have current stock of the Montblanc Racing Green ink, I have seen the colour before in a sample and the colour looks remarkably close to it. If anything, I had the Racing Green with Vert Empire and had concluded that they were roughly the same colour, and the Jonathan Swift similarity to Herbin Vert Empire is evident in this case.

Hence, my conclusion is that Jonathan Swift = 2nd coming of Racing Green.

I think that the scans are rather self-explantaory.

Performance

Like most Montblanc inks, there is consistent quality. There is no bleedthrough or feathering using my Starwalker and Rhodia combination, but then again, Rhodia never does gives any problems. A more holistic test will be on cheap photocopying paper, which I do not buy for obvious reasons.

I feel that the ink writes comparable to most Montblanc Inks like MST Blue and Royal Blue, with only Midnight Blue being slightly drier than it.

Comparison

A brief comparison with other inks that I own.

The colours look more accurate if you save it to desktop and then zoom in. In the smaller view, they all appear darker (at least it does on my computer).

Water Resistance Test

Water resistance yes, but don't expect any of those crazy Noodler's water proofing.

Methodology for the following picture

1) 1 min under running water

2) 5 mins soaked.

3) Results conclude water resistance.

Conclusion

For all who had been searching for Racing Green, I think that your prayers have been answered.

I like, seems like a lovely green color.

We will only be getting the Swift ink in a couple of weeks down here in the bushes.

However, I have booked a bottle of Colodi (waiting at the boutique) and I booked a bottle of the MST Blue which arrived at the agents today. Should get them by the end of the week. Dig my Montblanc inks

Any water resistance? MB Racing Green was water resistant.

Thanks for the review and photos. Can't wait to see side-by-side of the Racing Green contenders.

Dumb question of the day (before coffee): What does "MST" (as in "MST Blue") stand for?

Wow! That is a very attractive shade of green! Any idea how long this ink will be available? Thanks for your review!

Enjoy the Colodi! I like it more than Toffee Brown as it seems to be more well behaved.

The colour is Blue.

Thanks!

The Jonathan Swift series was only just made available. (Apparently it's launch date is tomorrow)

So I am sure you have enough time to pick it up.

Aside from the boutiques, any place to snag a bottle or three of this online? I'd probably add bottles of Irish Green and Midnight Blue to my order while I'm at it.

Wow, this ink could get difficult to find once the word gets out fully. Apparently MB has heard the cries of the masses regarding Racing Green.

I just pre-ordered from PenBoutique.com. I will be available September 1.

I talked to pen boutique too. They said you could pre-order, but that there's no rush because they are getting a TON of bottles. Like ... a lot, a lot, a lot.

I just wanted to let everyone know there's no need to madly rush to purchase this one from pen boutique immediately. :)

A clever person might say that to dissuade others from buying...

They said the same to me. I still pre-ordered, because I want it the moment it comes in. I can't wait to compare it to MBRG.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
