Diamine Syrah Compared To Parker Penman Ruby, A Comparison And Review

Bhavna

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Since I joined FPN, I have been eager to do a review/ comparison of some kind and the first one that I was eager to tackle was Diamine Syrah and Parker Penman Ruby. Each time I have picked up a pen with either ink, I have thought 'my goodness, I HAVE to put these together in some coherent format and share the outcome'. I would appreciate your thoughts. Please bear in mind this is my first attempt, it is in no way meant to follow in the footsteps of the great reviewers on FPN who thoroughly test-drive inks. My approach is one of fun and most importantly, on of enjoying my inks. So I hope this works, and enjoy! And yes, there is an 'e' omitted, can you spot it?!

A lovely refreshing review - marvellous! I do have a bottle of Syrah which my wife will be using (I don't use reds) and I'm glad I sold my only bottle of Ruby some time ago.

Sadly though, it looks like I'll have to buy the Grape now...

Yes, that is impressive and a nice comparison. Also shows the grape very well. Thanks for doing this comparison--very useful.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Thank you for your kind comments! Yes Syrah is really beautiful, I wish I had put it in a slightly broader nib to show more shading. As for grape, do get a bottle, it is simply exquisite, rich, velvety with potential I belive, for some lustre!

For some reason I can not see any images. This is the only thread that it is happening with right now.

Thank you! I have never been lucky enough to try any Emerald. Have you any Diamine Grens that compare - i.e Sherwood/ Green Black for a side by side? I hear you about the rationing!

What ones do you want? I've got PPE as well and would be up for doing a comparison.

This may already exist, but... I like your reviews because the wide nibs you use really give me a sense of the color, so I'd love to see you compare PPE with PR Ebony Green, which I have previously seen mentioned as perhaps the closest currently available alternative. It'd be lovely if one of the sheen-y Kobe/Bung Box inks would come in Emerald!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
