Agggh. Pretend I didn't typo the apostrophe in the topic title. Should be "Pharmacist's." There is only one of him. :headsmack:

Beautiful -- It's like a water resistent version of Poussiere de Lune. I'm definitely interested! Where does one buy this?

That's a very good description! This ink is a noncommercial creation of FPN user "pharmacist." Ordering instructions are in post #179 of this topic. He makes the ink in small batches as time permits, so the wait could be lengthy, but it's worth it.

From what I recall, Herbin's PdL is water-resistant. Am I mistaken?

In my experience it isn't very resistant to water... maybe it depends on the paper?

Ooh... I like this.

On my screen it looks a lot like a darker, shading version of Kung Te Cheng (which I see you used as one of your comparisons). I think that's a closer match for tone than Poussiere de Lune, which seems more purple -- Purpura Imperialis seems to fall closer to the indigo range (something that I'm seeing with KTC on most of the papers I've been using it on).

Hi Lloyd,

yes indeed: the fancy coloured IG inks are not completely water resistant due to the used dyes. If you want completely waterproof IG, then my Urkundentinte is the one you will have to look for. These fancy coloured IG inks rely more on the dye compound and the dye does not react with the IG compound completely unlike the special (but also very expensive) one I use for my Urkundentinte. Thus my Urkundentinte is completely waterproof (even alcohol and acetone proof).

Interesting, Ruth; you're right, it is more blue than PdL is. Kung Te-Cheng is so saturated that I was not thinking of it as similar to Purpura Imperialis, but yes, the tone is indeed close. I'm a great fan of both KTC and PI.

(By the way, I hope you're able to replace your bottle of KTC soon!)

  • 1 year later...

Before I heard about the "laxative" properties of Private Reserve Tanzanite, I bought a bottle of the Fast Drying PR Tanzanite.

I love the color, and it behaves quite nicely in my medium nibbed pens. Same color as the regular Tanzanite, as close as I can see.

Regards,

Keith

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
