Sailor Jentle Blue

I am so on the fence about this ink.

On some papers, it's dark and delicious, and sometimes it's washed out and insipid. Even when I use the same pen, on the same paper, in the same two minute span. It's all very confusing.

Shading can be nice (like below) or can also be non-existent.

It does have a sheen though!

As susal, more images in my photobucket album here.

I like this ink and it has a definite place in my rotation.

I'm using it with a fine nib (very fine nib) and the colour has a nice sheen to it, nice shading. Maybe it's better suited to finer nibs, instead of broad flowing nibs?

Sailor Jentle Blue's been discountinued? WHAT?

I use the cartridges all the time in my Sapporo (M) and Young Profit (F) and the color is very saturated. In the Profit I get lots and lots of sheen. The Sapporo gives me a nice dark blue with some shading and some sheen. I'd like to use this in a bottle and try it in some of my other pens.

Can anyone in the know confirm the assertion that this ink is being discontinued? I'd hate to create hysteria based on a single post, but I just discovered this ink and will definitely stock up if this is, in fact, true. I can always fall back to Diamine Majestic Blue or shift a little flatter to Platinum Blue-Black, but this ink is a nice pop on the page...

To the OP: there seems to be some concern about your use of the word "discontinued" in your title post. Seems a delayed reaction to your review may cause mass panic at the thought of Sailor discontinuing Jentle Blue.

According to Sailor's website, it's still very much in production.

Perhaps you will clarify what you meant? Is it unavailable in your region?

For many of us Sailor Blue is a great ink.

Cheers!

This has to be one of the worst blues ever. Its like a washed out Waterman florida blue. And that's saying a lot. I see a grey blue colour. Its hard to read. I see a grey blue. Thank god it was a sample (badhobbit)

My experience with Sailor Jentle Blue has been very different; I find it to be almost thick but it still flows beautifully.

Nice sheen too :)

My results are similar to Big Eddie's. This ink reminded me of Diamine Midnight, down to the reddish sheen, but indeed thicker and not quite as dark as the Midnight.

Bluejay, I think maybe your sample was off? Jentle Blue is a nice ink, give it another chance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
