Diamine Sepia

Here's my new favorite sepia ink, and unlike some other "sepia" inks, this one is actually SEPIA colored. Beautiful shading and well behaved (on good paper).

I never would have expected such shading from a "sepia" ink. I didn't see that shading looking at the color swatch over at Goulet's. It makes the ink much more interesting.

Thanks. Very nice review. I must give this ink another try. I tried it a few years ago but found it to "yellow". Can't remember it had such nice shading too. Thanks for reminding me of this ink. Will try it again soon.

I see that Fountain Pen Hospital has an exclusive Noodler's "Old Dutch Sepia". Has anyone compared that sepia with the Diamine?

Lovely review, thanks.

A couple of points... Have you noticed any settling of this ink in the bottle? The reason I ask is that Biffybeans' review found that the colour was weak unless shaken first.

And finally, look at the lovely "Black Swan Effect" on the outlines of the Brause sample Those darker lines at the edges of the wettest areas - it looks lovely in the very broad nib.

i used higgins sepia/brown for years -from abook art supply store

square plastic bottle --thick fluid with a layer in bottom -

the cap was steel and paper gasket often stuck and contents could evaporate

so i cut a new seal out of styrofoam plate and smeared vaseline [or lanolin]

on lid

very nice color and review  thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Great review and lovely writing. I have to go shake my bottle and try it again. I love the color, but sometimes feel like I have to bear down more than I like to get a deeper or richer shade. You have sold me on another try.

Thanks,

Mars

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
