De Atramentis Khaki

Here's my review of De Atramentis Khaki, a mediocre tan ink that some might love, but it just wasn't for me.

Thanks for the review! Looks like it might be better suited for a standard, non-flex nib and one that's a dry writer. Could you post a pic of a sample with your Serwex? The one and two pass swabs look fairly promising.

I agree with the OP that this is not a color I would go for. OTOH, it shades really nicely, so I'm betting that there are probably people out there who would be very happy to see your scans and would *love* the color.

YMMV

Here you go.

Sorry if it looks shaky. A school bus took off a chunk of my parked car yesterday and I've been talking with insurance agents all day trying to get it sorted out. No one was hurt, so that's good.

I'd also like to note that, while I'm not crazy about the color, I have to give this ink some praise because not only did it not stain the demonstrator, it came out of all the nooks and crannies from simply working the piston. I've never had an ink come out that easily and fully. My demonstrator looks like I just took it down and spent ten minutes scrubbing the insides.

So, messing with this ink a little bit more, I've found that I really like the way it looks coming out of a fine nib on cotton paper. It has a very interesting, light brown color. It's very concentric and clean looking.

Thanks for the great review. i was just thinking about this color!

How does it compare to my beloved Pelikan Khaki, which has olive undertones?

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

People don't wear khaki to impress people with their style and flair, and this ink is similarly not intended to be distinctive and dramatic. Put it in a medium nib and show off its khakiness.

On another level, though, I find this ink to be spectacular: the color is unique, and true, not just a weak brown. So enjoy the khakiness, but also secretly enjoy the irony of a distinctive and unusual khaki.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
