Someone suggested a 1950s MB 14X. So, I am here to pursue the idea.
1. Why MB?
How does MB compare to other German piston-fillers, e.g. Pelikan?
2. Which model?
The barrel diameter must be 13.5mm or up. The length must be 134mm or up. The size and position of the grip is important to me. I have found a grip around 12.8mm to be tolerable. But, I would prefer a wider grip for extended writing. I prefer to grip relatively high.
What are the differences between the first, second and third tiers, e.g. 14X, 24X and 34X?
3a. How do the years compare in terms of writing quality or behaviour?
In which years did MB change their line-up? 1950s, early 1960s, mid-1960s... What's next?
How did they change in terms of materials?
Did MBs get progressively better or worse? Which years were their peak?
How does a post-1990s MB compare with vintage ones?
3b. Which year would best retain its value over the next few decades?
I balance quality and value. I do not wish to purchase an which is likely to depreciate in the coming 20 to 30 years, nor do I wish to purchase a particularly fragile one.
Are the almost-vintage ones, e.g. 1980s, a good compromise?
Thanks in advance!
