Mb Hitchcock

Okay, I love MB red inks. I've always loved them, so I was really excited to see how this one panned out. I heard that it was blood red, but I definitely see it more as the crimson side of blood, like drying blood that hasn't got too brown yet.

It looks really nice on CF and Rhodia paper.

And the shading is pretty neat - it is almost rose coloured in the lighter areas, but dark crimson in the darker areas.

Nice review, thank you :)

I picked up a bottle about 2 weeks ago... and another two subsequently  I'm terrified that the LE links will vanish the moment I decide that I like them!

I found it to be very well behaved on my cheaper papers (whitelines pads on which Vert Empire feathers everywhere). I was very fond of the gold haloing too. I'd love to see a comparison with Herbin 1670 if anyone happens to have them both inked.

Now... is three bottles enough?!?!

I like the colour. But it's a limited edition, and I'd rather not get hooked on an LE ink... :(

Thanks for the review, I really like this red ink. I find it is just a touch more black compared to the Ink of Love.

I read somewhere (probably on FPN in all likelihood) that Hitchcock was re-branded Ink of Love...is there any truth to that?

From this I think Hitchcock, falls between the 2007 Holiday ink and Ink of Love in colour, and it's formulation is closer the 2007 Holiday ink.

To my eye the ink of love and the hitchcock look very similar.

I was actually shocked to see how different Ink of Love and Hitchcock were. I didn't realize that until I did this comparison.

How similar are Hitchcock and the 2007 Seasons Greetings? I Sam Capote's comparison scan they look very similar, though not identical, to me.

I just realized how HORRIBLY wrong I spelled Hitchcock in that last comparison! I was running out of room so my mind truncated it for me. I doubt he'd like being called 'Hitcock'.

raging.dragon - I'm working on that comparison now. I've done the Hitchcock portion, and tomorrow I'll fill up with MB SG 2007.

I really like this red.

So I bought three bottles (they are only 30ml per bottle).

Just in case I have to write more blood-letters :roflmho:

  • 2 weeks later...

Owing to a fear that this ink will become scarce and stocks vanish (leaving me with only MB Burgundy in the MB stable) I have just purchased my 3rd bottle to go into the cupboard from the MB in Birmingham - UK. The sales adviser said that it was currently unavailable from their warehouse, so it maybe that my pre-emptive panic buying was well founded!

One might suggest that in terms of blood red ink Hitchcock might be described as venous while Ink of Love looks arterial ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
