ETA: Another pic to try & get a more accurate portrayal of the color. Still not doing it justice.

My scanner had a really hard time with this one, so it may be showing up a bit too neon in places. In person, it isn't neon at all. This is a gorgeous lighter green with quite a bit of yellow in it to make for a nice springy green.

Flow/Lubrications: 5/5 Iroshizuku all seem to put down nice wet lines with little effort.

Feathering/Bleeding: 5/5 None that I could see. YMMV with wider/wetter nibs.

Show through is minimal. Shading is slight, but the paper I use for my ink reviews rarely shows the shading properties of an ink very well. Very quick dry time of ~5sec on my paper.

A lighter colored ink, but darkens slightly as it dries so that it remains easily legible even in low light. Chiku-rin is available from retailers in the US (through Pilot USA, some retailers already ordered it in from Japan) in March 2012.

Great review. I just got this ink and really like it. In fact, I totally agree with everything you said. It is a beautiful light green that isn't neon in person. It is surprisingly legible. "Springy" is the right word. Just a very cheerful ink.

I get some nice shading with a broad nib, but it isn't dramatic. It shades from lighter to darker for me.

The ink is available in the US from Jetpens right now, as well as on eBay. I have no affiliation with either, except as a customer.

Thanks! Ugh, this color is a pain to try & scan/photo. I swear, people, it really is nice! +1 on the cheerful. Good to know that it shades. I should probably use a different paper for my reviews since the Hammermill fights shading.

I recently picked up this ink too and I'm loving it :) I think it is hard to scan. It either seems neon or darker than I've experienced in the above scans, so I agree that if people are at all interested they should pick up a bottle. They won't be disappointed. It's such a happy color! I have it loaded in 3 different pens right now :)

Thanks very much for the great view! I love the descriptions 'springy' and 'cheerful'. :D It looks like another winner in the iroshizuku line of inks.

Love the way it's dark[er] in my B nibs, yet shades yellow to green coming off my OBBs. Unlike many yellow-greens, it's dark enough to write a letter or journal entry without squinting after it dries. :clap1:

Thanks! I think the four new colors for this year add a great bit of diversity to the Iroshizuku line. None of them are really too similar to the currently available inks.

*snip--it's dark enough to write a letter or journal entry without squinting after it dries. :clap1:

+1 I was worried that in low, warm light, which I always seem to be writing in that this ink would cause too much eye strain but it's great!

Great review, thank you! My reaction to the colour is "nice... Nice? Not sure... Maybe... Yes!" I guess it's distinctiveness would be part of its appeal...

I have had this ink for a little while, but finally got around to loading it into a pen on Sunday - a Pelikan M800 green demo. I ADORE this ink. It's so cheerful, and it shades nicely. :cloud9:

Boy am I having a dilemma, I find I don't like lighter colors to write with but this color is fascinating. I want to like it but something tells me I won't. What to do? Maybe Inkdrop will pick this color soon and I can try it.

Buy a sample from Goulet as soon as they get their bottles in and see. Much cheaper than an entire bottle.

Send me your info by PM - if you'd like - and I'll send you a sample of mine. I have the little nalgene bottles Goulet sells and can send you one with chiku-rin, and though I love the ink, I think I can share :)

Great review! Looks like a great "spring" colour.

The color of the ink in your photo reminds me of this light green Diamine colours:

Jade Green, Light Green, Kelly Green, Meadow, Apple Glory

Which would you say comes closets, colour-wise?

Diamine Light Green is really very close to Chiku-rin. I should note that I had the inks in different pens, and I didn't get a chance to run careful tests, but at first glance the Light Green looked almost identical to Chiku-rin. I do suspect the Chiku-rin might shade more.

Meadow is darker, and not really a match, though it looks very nice. I don't know the others.

Thanks for this info! I have been quietly lusting after the Chiku-rin but maybe I just need to fill a couple of pens w/ Diamine Light Green to take the edge off

I just spotted a bottle of this on eBay, but the shipping from Tokyo makes it an expensive bottle of ink for a first time trial.

Does anyone know where I can get some from within the UK please?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
