Just some photos of my Noodler's Bad Blue Heron and Bad Blue Kingfisher reviews. Ruh Roh, it won't let me load the pics, so I'll include the link to my blog instead:

I reviewed a few Noodler's, Platinum, and some new to me R&K's.

Thanks!

I've got Bad BLue Heron as well, and I love it. Easily one of my favorite inks.

Both are very nice inks -- is it your experience that BBH feathers a bit more on cheap paper? It might be just that I have the two inks in different pens.

yeah, Heron feathers a little bit. I use it in my really fine pens to mitigate this. My Parker Vac is fine enough that if it does feather, I don't notice it as much.

The bad belter kingfisher looks a lot like the sailor sei-boku pigment blue-black, although my scanner does not get the turquoise tone quite right:post-1826-0-67722600-1322606485.jpg

TBH, I'm not sure--I only tried the BBH on the Clairefontaine-and didn't like it much so I emptied the pen. I much prefer the BBK.

Sei has more shading than BBK. I love it far more than BBK, but the colour overall is... less saturated. However, wash Sei Boku out and it somehow looks even better o.o

I've had all three inks: Sailor Blue/Black Carbon, BBH, and BBK.

I found the Bad Black Heron a little washed out for my tastes. Also a tad dry in some of my pens.

I moved to the Bad Belted Kingfisher: I liked the more vivid blue of this ink. Still a tad dry...dries up in a pelikan 215 after a couple of days.

Then, the Sailor: solved all the problems: nice vivid blue, with a tad of shading depending on nib, and wet like I like it!

After that, I tried the Platinum Pigment Blue.....which I have to say, is my favorite of ALL of these blues. Very vivid, with some "Pop" on the page.

I'll probably end up dumping the Sailor into my incoming Estie Dip-less Ink well and finish it off there.

I have Bad Belted Kingfisher and, although I love the color, the nib creep I get with my Lamy Al-Star EF is driving me crazy. I will need to try it with the Pilot Custom 74 to see if I get better results.

Thanks for posting the comparisons. I've not yet tried BBH but BBK is one of my favorites inks. It gets regular use at the office and my Pilot Custom 823 is dedicated to it, for all practical purposes - they really play well together. Nib creep never really bothered me, even on that huge #15 nib . . .

I never noticed the similarities when looking at reviews, but I noticed it when I wrote with the Sailor Blue-Black in a day planner under an entry done in Bad Belted Kingfisher. Almost the identical color. If it weren't for shading and sheen, I doubt I'd be able to tell them apart.

Had I known, I'm not sure I would have picked up the BBK. Just seems redundant to have two inks the same color. Funny. This from a guy with six different bottles of black ink.

Of course, BBK could behave differently in another pen, then I'll be glad I have it.

Thanks! I now only have to decide which I like better/best: I have all of them, but have not yet compared each of these with those of thre others. Thanks again, that's what this forum is all about!!!

I bought a bottle of BBK yesterday. In a Lamy 2000 with medium nib, I find it the most boring ink color that I've tried. So far. Maybe in a different pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
