Nice review of a brilliant red, I'd like to compare it myself with Waterman's red which is my current favourite brilliant red.

Nice review. Thanks you. It seems this red is not the one I was looking for, based on your sample :crybaby: .

Sorry to hear that, but glad I could help. What type were you looking for by the way?

Noodler's Red-Black is a very cool color that is darker. It is a true Red-Black and not brown or maroon from what I have used.

Haven't been here in awhile.. wished I'd seen this before ordering a bottle. I like the color, but the drying time is just horrible (slow) for my Lamy EF. I've been using J Herbin Rouge Bourgogne as my red, and it dries quickly. I like the color a lot, but was hoping to save some money. Any way to make the Noodler's Red dry faster, or can anyone recommend bright, darker reds (I like closer to burgundy than pinks) that dry quickly?? Thanks folks!

I tend to use on HP 28lb laserjet paper and college textbooks.

This looks like a great red to use at work. I need to mark up drawings, or redlining as we call it, and I want a true bright red. Thanks for the review.

Any idea of a similar red with better drying time? 15 seconds and still wet is very long indeed, that's with a XXF nib! I tend to use B nibs or OB, so I should expect a full 1minute drying time at least. That's just too long for me.

cheers

Excellent review. Noodler's Nikita is a bit darker and is also an excellent red for those in the market.

I don't like the hue, but that really isn't relevant for the little use I have for red ink.

Other wise I found it was satisfactory and bought a bottle.

So even though I like other shades of red, it was satisfactory enogh for me to pay for the bottle and use it.

YMMV

I've been using Ottoman Rose myself.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
