We will be launching a traditional style nib block manufactured in silver steel with highly hand polished concave and convex burnishing runs. Images should be available in a couple of weeks cost is likely to be $260 including shipping to USA. A batch of 20 is currently in production, however over 50% of them have already been ordered. The block will be officially launched at the London Writing Equipment Show in early October. If you are interested in getting one of these pleas PM me.

Sorry I haven't got any more details for you right now.

PM sent! Me want! Me want! Gimmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

Sorry about my over-enthusiasm. I've been wanting one of these forEVER, and now someone comes out of nowhere, with one for a great price. :)

Thanks for letting us know!

And I am in the US by the way...

Need a pen repaired or a nib re-ground? I'd love to help you out.

What do people use nib blocks for? In other words, I have no idea what it is. I have seen a knock-out block, but is this all for "nib meisters" vs. the dedicated FP user?

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

This looked like a sale ad - which is a no no outside of the classifieds - but the purpose of the nib block is to burnish nibs smooth and flat and back to writing condition if they've been bent or damaged somehow.

Sort of like my rigged up tools here:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/191427-another-one-doesnt-bite-the-dust/

I used an awl and some other little metal tool with a rounded end. Not as good as a nib block - but only about $10 at the hardware store.

Oh, like if you mistook your FP for a dart? Yeah, I would send to a meister...especially since I don't even know what "burnish a nib smooth" means.

Oh - uhm... basically burnishing a tweaked and bent up nib means rubbing it with a had object to sort of get it back into shape.

basically smoothing it out by rubbing on it.

  • 2 weeks later...

The first batch of nib blocks is on schedule for delivery. They have all been machined and preliminary hand polishing is now taking place. A second batch of 20 starts production next week, however five of these are already allocated. I've attached an image of the first block off the bench after preliminary polishing of the working faces. After preliminary polishing, they have a final polish and then back into the machine shop to have the non working faces fine ground.

The London Writing Equipment Show is this Sunday and is the event where we officially launch the block.

And I have that very block in my possession now, it is an AWESOME piece of kit.notworthy1.gif

Just back from the London Show with it, so I'll do a write up with more photo's of it in a separate thread later today. I was totally blown away with the quality of the finish, knowing as I do the difficulty there is in the machining of the profiles required. thumbup.gif

I need to dig out some nibs needing workcloud9.gif

Oh wow! It looks like the real deal, and better!

When do us folks like me have to pay for ours? I think I pre-ordered with the second batch, but I'm not sure...

Either way, that picture looks great. I can't wait to get mine! :D

Trust me, the photo there doesn't do it justice, but muggins here left his camera cable in London, ordered another one so better quality photos, may be a couple of days. I'll see how they turn out with my old camera.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
