Private Reserve Tanzanite

PR Tanzanite is simply a stunning color. It is just a shade bluer than what I think of as true violet, but it is darned close! The color is like some of the shades in its namesake, Tanzanite. This ink shades nicely, and generally seemed well behaved, but it has a quirk. It flows. No, it gushes. If you have a dry pen... try this ink. If your pen is already extra juicy... it could be an issue, or you just might wait a long time for all that ink to dry. My Perla is a fairly wet writer, so it made a particularly juicy line with the Tanzanite. It seems relatively saturated, but that could just be the extra flow. The color is simply lovely and is one that I think everyone needs to have! It's just about the color of the iris reticulata that bloom in my garden in early, early spring, sometimes poking through the snow.

This has long been one of my favorite inks. Just blue enough so that I don't feel funny (male ego) using it and yet interesting enough. Great performing ink in most of my pens. /Craig

Thanks...I just got a bottle of this and it will be going into a pen as soon as I clear out the currently inked ones!

Nice review

My only caveat is this ink FLOWS and in pens with bold-plus nibs with zero flow issues it can be a bit much, even for one who likes a wet line.

Dilution at 50% doesn't stem the overflow.

Most of pens has juicy nibs, what can be a problem with this ink, however I have two Monblanc 146 and a 149, whose ink flows are not uniform and a bit on the dry side. I'll try to remember of this ink in my next ink order.

I only have a few "juicy nibs." My Delta Oversize with B nib won't be seeing this colour any time soon.

also, the colour on my monitor is almost blue, this ink is PURPLE!!! It is fully understood about the scanning issues and my monitor issues...

This ink has a fantastic gold sheen. I posted pictures of it in action over at my 'Inks with a Sheen' thread in the scans/comparisons forum. I am a big fan of this one now!!!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
