Lloyd, your wish is my command :notworthy1:

Would you mind teaching this behavior to my wife and daughter?

Thanks for being so helpful and informative about the new colours fuchsiaprincess, like everyone else I'm drooling over far too many!

May I further impose on your helpfulness and ask for side by sides of the Grape and Merlot (and if you have the Damson to compare and contrast too that would be the icing on the proverbial)?

I'm definitely leaning more towards the Grape, but the Merlot looks nice too. Will probably end up with both - no surprise!

Cheers!

Here it is  I tried to match the Merlot, Grape and Damson as best as I could. The Amazing Amethyst is much less purple than it appears in the scan, leaning towards a blueish Damson.....

Merlot looks like a Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses, PR Black Cherry, R&K Alt Bordeaux competitor. It looks like it is very well behaved (no feathering or bleeding it would appear, along with your good testimony of its behavior), and it even looks like it shades extremely well! In fact, it looks like it may be directly targeting the BSAR fans. I am excited to try this one out (even though BSAR is perfect in my opinion)!! :D

And of course, thanks for the continued writing samples! :notworthy1:

Wow, thanks for the most informative written comparisons. Looks like they highlight the performance difference with varying nibs and papers, too. Good they aren't all available right now - would loose the final vestiges of my sanity deciding which two I could afford to acquire!

first fountain pen: student Sheaffer, 1956

next fountain pen: Montblanc 146 circa 1990

favourite ink: Noodler's Zhivago

favourite pen: Waterman No. 12

most beautiful pen: Conway Stewart 84 red with gold veins, oh goodness gracious

Fab! Thank you! I think it must be my monitor settings but I'm not seeing much difference between the grape and the damson at all and I'm liking the Merlot much more than I thought I would. This is so good of you. Still going to get both whenever they come out - oh and Ancient Copper, just like the rest of the world...

No, not your monitor settings. It was difficult, adjusting the scan to be as close as the original as possible. The Merlot is a lot darker than it is in real life. Does shade well though. Grape is in the middle between Merlot and Damson (which is slightly bluer).

Thank you so much for the writing samples; the colours are wonderful. Sunset looks lovely.

Your writing is lovely.

Thank you! You're too kind

Any chance of getting a comparison between the Diamine Sunset and Iroshizuku Persimmon? I quite like the Persimmon...just not enough to buy a whole bottle.

Thanks for posting these scans! I love Diamine's reds and oranges. Sunset and Matador are nice additions. Soft Mint, after a second glance, calls to me. Ancient Copper might be the perfect ink for a Visconti Homo Sapiens.

I totally agree with you! I can't wait those inks... Matador will be beautiful in my HS too.

Is there any chance you could post a writing sample of Beau Blue??

It's no trouble at all, if you can't :)

I'd love to see a comparison between Sargasso Sea and Penman Sapphire. Anyone? :) :) :)

Also, I'm desperate for at least four of those inks. And they all come out in spring and summer of 2012. :crybaby: Grape, Merlot, Sargasso Sea, and Bilberry and the breakaway winners for me.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
