Here is one I think hasn't been done before, formally. Enjoy!

In trying to reach the apex of a pure orange, this ink has both the pro of being an excellent example of an orange ink, and it happens to be a bit to bright and perhaps hard to read to be used for mark ups, any sort of business, or school work... in my opinion of course. I think this ink is still a great vibrant colour, and being so well behaved it would be a no brainer when compared to inks that 'gunk up' nibs and feeds.

I hope my review is helpful! :)

Now that's what I call a good review! Very helpful! Especially the comparisons and the different pens used.

What I like the most about this ink is that it really resembles an apricot (I think). Orange, yes, but also with the right touchs of yellow and brown. Now that's not an everyday piece of art!

Wow, that color really pops! Love it!

Great review -- and I love the orange pens, too! And the comparisons to other orange inks. Rock on!

I love orange inks and orange pens! Apricot appears to be very, very similar to Kin-mokusei. Perfect for the orange TWSBI!

Great review. Love the pictures! Thank you!

Now I just have to convince myself that I don't reeaaaalllly need yet another bottle of orange/apricot/sunset ink

Thanks for the compliments guys!

I wish my other orange pen weren't in Nashua (well I am glad it is there), it would go well with the collage.

And Alice, don't be silly, you need this ink! :D

Hi,

Thanks for the Review!

This seems more like 'Electric Apricot'!

If a person could accommodate but a few Orange inks, I could see this as a prime pick. (Sailor does it yet again!)

Your very welcome for the review! I'm still trying to nail down a good formula for working up my reviews, I hold yours in very high regard, so it means allot that you liked mine! :bunny01:

I totally agree, this colour is very bright, neon almost, and if someone wants to get two or three good orange inks this one deserves serious consideration.

Thanks for commenting! :)

Great job, Gobblecup! The color is phenomenal--do you know if it's just a re-hash of the Kin-mokusei that preceded it by a season?

Fab review! Would also love to know how apricot compares to the old Sailor Yellow-Orange?

Wish list: Aurora Optima

Current inked Pens: Pilot Decimo - Noodlers BBH, MB Mozart - MB Lavender

Pelikan M150 - Noodlers Kung te Cheng

I've never used the older season's Sailor Yellow Orange, but I have seen a comparison scan before (Somewhere in the Scans section) and they are very close, if perhaps a little bit different in hue. So I wouldn't think it's the same formula, but a bit of a variation of the older one. I think if I recall right, Apricot is just a touch darker.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for your excellent all-round review! I just recently bought a bottle of this ink to use in my yellow Montegrappa Micra with an extra fine nib and I really love it. I have become very fond of orange inks and this one is right up there at the top. Great review, Gobblecup!

This ink looks very similar to Noodler's Summer Tanager - to me, anyway.

I may try this one when my bottle of Summer Tanager starts to get low. Alas, that may take some time as this color does not suit me for daily or even frequent use. On the other hand, my eight year old daughter really likes it and she may speed things up quite a bit.

Thank you for the great review.

Another winner from Sailor--thanks for your great review, especially showing us how the ink performs in various pens and nibs.

Thank you both, it was my pleasure to craft this review, I'm glad it's been useful! :)

Really fabulous review!!!

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I agree - great review. I got a sample of this ink and it is wonderfully bright - it matched my orange Rhodia webbie to a T - which doesn't quite come through on my screen in the photos. Loved the color, great shading.

I just finished using up a sample of Caran d'Ache's Saffron and they're very similar.

Hi there,

Thanks for the compliments! Although, I didn't find this ink to be a very good shading ink myself, might I ask what sort of pen/nib produced the shading? I would love to duplicate it!

I try very hard to adjust the scans if needed to match the true colour of the ink, but I surely can't guarantee that the colour match of the scans is exact.

I find this ink to be a close match for the Rhodia Orange, but a bit brighter to my eye. That is the one big defining factor of this ink IMO, its neon brightness!

I need to get a bit of Caran d'Ache's Saffron and some of the Diamine Oranges in the future for comparisons and reviews!

P.S. I have a few new reviews incoming, Noodler's Zhivago, and Private Reserve Black Cherry; I plan on doing several more soon. Any suggestions? If I have a bottle or a sample of the ink suggested, I will be happy to work up a review!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
