Ink Review - Private Reserve Purple Mojo!

This review, along with all my other ones, can be found on

my blog. Please do me a huge favor and check it out. I think you'll enjoy your visit! :D

Here's an ink that was given to me as a gift by a very kind person. I thought I should do a review of it for this reason, and because I really like it. The ink I speak of is Private Reserve Purple Mojo! This is a really pretty ink color, and is fabulously vibrant.

I've decided to "translate" my handwriting into computer text for you. Mainly, since it's pretty unreadable at times. :) The parts that are underlined are notes that have been added to the review since I wrote it.

Ink Review: Private Reserve Purple Mojo

Pen and nib: Pelikan M805 with an XF nib

Color: Pure Purple! This is (so far) the best purple I've seen. The color is just right for what I like in a purple.

Dry time: 3 seconds! Wow, this ink dries fast! I'm quite impressed. This may be due to the fact that I'm using an XF nib. I'll have to check it out with my bigger nibs sometime.

Smear when dry: NO

Lubricaton: Very good. I like how this ink lubes my pen. Feels very smooth on paper.

Shading: Very faint but still there. One can't expect an XF nib to show much shading though.

Feathering: Moderate. Not bad but it feathers more than my other inks. This is probably a result of the excellent dry time. My paper is not the best at all too. With clairefontaine, rhodia, or any other "expensive" paper, you won't have any feathering at all.

Notes: Overall I love this ink! I have yet to find a more beautiful, pure, and well-behaved purple. I personally think a little feathering is a good sacrifice for the superb dry-time. I would highly recommend this ink to any purple lover!

Thanks for the review. Purple Mojo is a "fun" ink. It is very nice also with a broad stub/CI.

You're most welcome!

I have yet to try this ink in any of my "big" nibs. I am really looking forward to it though! It's such a vibrant color, which I always prefer in my inks...

Regularly use this in my big nibs. Beautifully behaved, tho' keep it away from your light colored resin pens.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks Ghost Plane!

I'll bet it looks gorgeous in your nibs. You've got all those 3B's and such. Some say it was secretly you who got me addicted to the big, juicy, buttery nibs... bunny01.gif

thanks! this is a purple i've had my eye on for awhile.

You're welcome!

This ink is definitely worth trying out. I'd recommend at least getting a sample vial of it.

Or, if you're like me, and just "do it", I'd say go for a full bottle!

Thanks for the review - I seem to be buying purple inks these days and I really like the look of this one, especially since I use fine nibs most of the time. There goes the ink budget yet again!!

Sorry about your ink budget. I know how that goes... :D

It really is a fabulous purple though. If you like purples, I'd say it's a must-have!

I'll bet it's lovely in a CI nib! As soon as My TWSBI is empty, I'm going to put this stuff in it. Then, I'll get to check it with one of my B CI re-grinds... :)

I would say definitely blue. That's why I like it so much. I too am not a fan of red-hued purples.

I think you need to get yourself a sample vial... ninja.gif

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
