Is the color as shown on your post the same as in real life? The ink in my bottle is a (very hard to describe) blue-gray.

What you see there is what I see, maybe a little bit darker. Mine does not have any gray properties that I can see.

I really like the color in your review, (it usually looks quite darker); here, it reminds me of an old railroad color: New York Central Jade. I may have to try a sample- maybe they changed the dye formula recently.

Most of my pens are flex-nibs but there are still some old, sentimental favorite pens (like my Grandfather's 1939 Parker, or the MB given to me for graduation in '71) with delightful-but-not-flexible nibs. For these pens. my two favorites are both Noodlers: this ink and Zhivago. With a fine or extra-fine nib, the line is much darker than the sample above and in poor light could be mistaken for black. In good full spectrum light, it is a complex green-gray color that is very appealing to my aesthetic senses. With both inks, they are very well behaved in those dryish nibs.

first fountain pen: student Sheaffer, 1956

next fountain pen: Montblanc 146 circa 1990

favourite ink: Noodler's Zhivago

favourite pen: Waterman No. 12

most beautiful pen: Conway Stewart 84 red with gold veins, oh goodness gracious

It looks to me like you might not have shaken your bottle before testing. Noodler's ink bottles should be well shaken before use as it tends to separate. If you did shake, it might be that you got an "off color" batch--Noodler's ink batches tend not to be the most consistent in color from one batch to the next. My recent bottle of Zhivago looks nearly black compared to an ink vial sample I tried that looked more like Montblanc Racing Green.

This was my first Noodler's ink and is still a favorite. Mine writes like the sample by simonrodrique, although with a fine pen as I normally use the color appears even darker. It is distinctive but conservative. I really like it!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
