Penmeeting At Akkerman The Hague 11-06-2011

Dear Penfriends,

I started a new topic to post the pics of the second meeting of FP-lovers in The Netherlands.

Yesterday we went to Akkerman in The Hague to meet each other (Lennardvanzwam, Lovesink, Nikolaos and I) and see some Fp's which we are interested in.

At the shop I asked mainly for Montblanc 149 with different nib-sizes.

And others were interested in other brands and special nibs.

Mr Rutte is the manager of Akkerman. He showed us some really special FP's and talked passionate about fountainpens. During this afternoon also some fountainpens of FPN-members have been serviced at no charge.

In the year 2010 the company Akkerman celebrated their 100th anniversary. In The Netherlands they have gained the title "Hofleverancier". According to the dictionary it means that they are a Purveyor to the Royal Household. (Hope that my translation is correct.)

Visconti made a special version of their FP as a gift to Akkerman. This is limited to just one piece worldwide!

Here is a picture of this FP:

We also get the oppurtunity to hold the new "a tribute to Montblanc" with its MOP star. :notworthy1:

Really good looking and with a lot details, but to me the size is a bit small.

Every member bought a new bottle of their new ink and after that we went with the group to a cafe nearby and showed and talked about our own FP's.

Nikolaos thank you for the coffee and pie and your background information about capless FP's!

And ofcourse Lennard and Lovesink nice to meet you and thank you for bringing the impressive collection!

Here are some highlights

Nice photos, Kwok-Jan.

Shows Paul Rutte just as I remember him from various earlier visits.

What I best remember that he advocates making a ritual of the cleaning of your pens.

What a pity I had to break off my journey.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
