Here you go. The pics in all their decadent glory.

Some of use spent most of the week over at Penopoly. I think Loren actually moved into Roger's house.

On Friday as we were setting up for the party, some new special Penscapes Pens arrived. These are all one off unique steam punk themed pens. I arrived somewhat early with donuts in hand to photograph the new pens before the party started.

All parts of these pens are hand made including the screws. The craftsmanship is pretty impressive.

Live music was provided by the Bo Bo Olson half-quartet. (The guys didn't have a firm band name so Farmboy gave them one.) They were really good and showed great musical range.

As the party winds into the late afternoon, the real fun begins.

I set-up a five sake tasting flight. One of the bottles was the most horrendous swill anyone has had the displeasure to taste. Ack! Number four (a Junmai Ginjo) and number five (a Nigori) were the favorites.

After most of the crowds left, we opened the good stuff. A bottle of Duckhorn Cab.

The party was a blast. The new location was fabulous. Thanks to Scott and Deni for the delicious food. Thanks to Roger and his family for hosting us (some of us all week). Remember the party is open to all. Just show up. There will be several more parties this year so keep a look out. There will be one duing the SF pen sho so come out to the show.

Oh, you guys, that looks like such a great time!

I have to say, on a side note: this is one of the things I've enjoyed since joining FPN - the really good spirit around here, especially as evidenced in this thread. It is looking like I might not have to work that weekend in October, and might make the SF Pen show to meet some of you. :D

And lastly...

I Must Have One Of Those Steampunk Pens!!!

I'll bet (on the latter). I was only semi-serious, but... are these just for sale at Penopoly? I looked and didn't see a 'line' of those pens at any of the (meager, information-wise) Penscapes sites.

yes the Steampunk pens are for sale. I will list them later today. I am still recovering from yesterday. Contact me directly, ronlee@penopoly.com, if you want one. They are $3900 each. I have those three available now.

Ricky, your photos of the Steampunk pens are fabulous!

Also, your photos of Penopoly's soiree -- ha ha ha, great! Really good shots! Oh, I loved those sandwiches. As luck had it, Will couldn't eat it, cos he can't eat cilantro. So I ate it this morning, score! (I mean, okay, I felt bad that he couldn't eat the delicious sandwich, but I'm glad I found out before the sandwich was on its way to L.A.) And Corey (sp?) looks familiar, cos we met him at FLAX! He had his daughter with him. I knew he looked familiar! And the horse photo - nice! Also, I was smelling the Cabernet, mmmmm so good!

Hooray for edible butterflies!

Here's a leetle tour of Penopoly, a quick walk-through at some early point in the afternoon. You, too, can see Pen People. ("I see Pen People!"):

.

And here's the Bo Bo Olson Half-Quartet playing a lovely, slow piece:

When I looked at the steampunk pens in the case I thought, "Cool looking but as a writing instrument? Probably not." Then I held them in my hands and now I want one in the worst way. Balanced and comfortable like you won't believe. Truly functional art. Awesome. Each one of these pens is totally and amazingly different.

Too bad for Will! We could have given him some tamales that were left over. We scarfed up whatever food was left in the house after you left. See I told you to go try banh mi a while ago. :roflmho:

True to form, 20 minutes after you left Kernan showed up. He was the last visitor to arrive at 10:41 pm. He was still there hanging out when I left around 1:00 am. (These events tend to go late into the night. :bunny01: )

Love the videos Lisa. I think they capture the flavor of the event. I think we will have to add videos to our Pen Posse events.

As Lisa said, if you want to experience this for yourself, go to the SF Pen show. We will be hosting a pen social/fleamarket/pen trading thing Friday night. Roger will also be having another party at his place Saturday night.

The party at Penopoly/Penscapes was wonderful! Pens, new friends, ink, great food, laughter, wine and sake tasting, and more pens... Oh my!

Thanks to Roger and all who helped to organize and provide such a fun event. Let me know what I can do to help for the next one. :clap1:

Does what happens in Dublin stay in Dublin?

It's never been done before, but if we keep talking about it here, probably not.

P.S.: I just realized that whatever starts in Dublin will probably move out to nearby towns, like wherever the nearest In-N-Out is, or maybe Fenton's is worth the drive.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
