So, here goes my first review.

 

handwritten, I like to say what I have to say in a few words. with the keyboard invented, people tend to over-communicate, spending to many words on very little info...

HEMA has got to be one of my favorite department stores anywhere. A couple of years ago, I made a trip to the Netherlands and bought three inexpensive fountain pens in a HEMA there, the one covered in your review among them. Of the three, my favorite is actually a black metal model that's a bit thinner but also more sturdy than the one that you review--in fact, I was just using it yesterday and thinking how nice the nib was. The third HEMA pen I got was a yellow transparent pocket-sized model--I really like how it looks and feels, but it's got a flow problem that I've not had time to try to fix. For what it's worth, I suspect that these pens are Chinese-made. By the way, I agree with your comment re: the HEMA ink cartridges--not bad at all for the price.

It's a great pen, but the paint is coming off, and the nib sometimes skips, the ink flow isn't that great with mine.

Yep, that's the other HEMA pen I was talking about. Our different experiences with it is probably an indication of uneven quality-control, but that's hardly surprising in light of how cheap these pens are.

I picked up the one in John's review this week for € 0,50 ($ 0,75) :yikes: ... they were on sale at HEMA.

I've got the other ones as well, but I prefer the one John reviewed ...

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.       I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
