Noodler's "la Couleur Royale"

This is my first ink review, and I am sure I have left things out so please ask away. I am extremely familiar with this ink and can answer any/all questions you may have.

A majority of the information covered is on the scan that I have uploaded, so please check that out first. I will also answer many of the guideline questions stickied in this forum.

I have found that this ink flows extremely quickly. there are no noticeable hang ups and it can certainly keep up with very fast, albeit sloppy writing.

I never leave my pen uncapped for longer than 5 minutes after im done writing with it, so I don't know how quickly this would dry out. (If this is a problem for you, I send you my grievances)

Start-up problems are virtually non existent with this ink, and it starts just as smoothly as it finishes.

This ink is not very durable. I would not use it to sign anything important, but that is not a problem I ever run into. For note-taking or completing school-work it is very sufficient. I have received many compliments from teachers for using this ink, although, under the fluorescent lights in my classrooms, it appears almost blue in hue. (Yes, that rhyme was intentional).

Thank you for reading all of this, and ideally you learned a lot about this ink... at least enough to decide whether you want it or not. Although I think I covered most questions, I could not have covered them all, so please ASK AWAY.

I am very open to your criticism and I cannot wait to continue contributing to this exciting society.

Hey, this was a great review!

I use FP from school too! Aren't they fun? Not to mention that your handwriting is unique among your class...

Keep up the good work!

Nice job from one Joisey person to another. La Couleur Royale was one of the first inks I bought when I started using fountain pens. Still love it.

Thank you for your review. I haven't tried that ink yet. What other colors do you like?

I haven't tried anything except this so far. I just ordered the 4 samples of ink:

Noodler's Cactus Fruit (eel)

Noodler's Baystate Concord Grape

Noodler's Nightshade

Noodler's Widowmaker

They should be here in two days, and I will review them in either a Preppy or A.G. Spalding pen that I also ordered.

Thanks for all the support.

One of my favorite inks...I use it very carefully for some reason. I'm 'saving' it, I guess :)

What a wonderful review! The review covers all the aspects that most people would want to see with this ink. Very well done. You really show the intense, distinct performance it has with an XF nib. It appears the scanner made it look even brighter, judging by the whiteness of the paper. Maybe comment on how the scanned image looks as compared to your actual page in hand.

I cannot believe you are only 14 !!! I mean that as a very high compliment. I don't want to sound condescending, but your writing style, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, spelling, and legibility are absolutely inspiring for someone your age. Please be proud of yourself, and know that we all welcome you here very much!!!!! :notworthy1:

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I was considering talking about that, but I read that everyone's monitor shows things differently so I was hesitant to do so.

If anyone deos want to know:

The ink will be slightly more dim than the scan makes it out to be, however the color appears darker than it does under normal lighting. the best representation in the scan is on the right side of the box around the information towards the top.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
