Noodlers Cayenne Ink Review

Noodlers Cayenne is a beautiful orange-red with excellent shading and good dry time. I like to use it for everyday writing though for business writing it may not be appropriate in some situations.

Smear when dry: No

Lubrication: Not excellent but it's not bad either. It's certainly less than my Diamine inks though

Shading: Very nice in my broad stub nib

Bleed-through: none on my good paper

I've had Noodler's Cayenne for about two years now. I love the color, but I do find that, after a few days, the ink loses some of its brightness. Has anybody else found that to be true?

Thanks for the great writing sample!

Erick

Using right now:

Visconti Voyager 30 "M" nib running Birmingham Streetcar

Jinhao 9019 "EF" nib running Birmingham Railroad Spike

Pelikan M1000 "F" nib running Birmingham Sugar Kelp

Yes, I've found this to be somewhat true for me, though in my case not after a few days but right after it dries. It goes on very bright and reddish but dries a little more understated and orange. Still a lovely color and you're most welcome for the writing sample!

You're quite right - They do look very similar to each other. I think Cayenne is just a bit more vibrant than the Antietam. Might just be me though...

Having worked with both, in the same environment (same pen, same paper) I find that the Antietam goes more to brown, while the Cayenne maintains it's "redness." I love Cayenne for mark-up, notes (to self and others) and non-formal correspondence.

One of my favorite inks. I haven't noticed what it does after a few days, but I do find that it's the ink that catches my eye long after I've written something. As in "that's pretty, I wonder which ink that was? Oh right, Cayenne."

Yes, I love looking back through old notebooks of mine and seeing this color in them. It really stands out and shines!

I LOVE this ink. It is more orange than Antietam. Cayenne is one of my favorites.

Yup, one of my favorites too! I love the orange tints to it. It really does look like a cayenne pepper.

Thank you! This review was very helpful to me.

Strange how tastes vary. I think that its an awful color. Good review.

Just to add to the review: this ink seemed a lot drier than the usual Noodler's wet inks and I actually like it. It is not wet but it is smooth and flows well. So, no technical issues there in terms of functionality.

I am just a little disappointed that the color wasn't as high contrast as the samples I saw on websites. Probably, the closest thing that can describe its color would be blood. Yes, it looked more like partially de-oxygenated blood from veins. Now, you can say:"My writings are written in blood."

Incidentally, is Sheaffer Red "louder" than Cayenne?

What about Diamine Passion Red ?

Thanks!

I love the color of this ink but I also find it dry and I don't like that. I put it in a broad nib pen and was happier, though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
