Thanks!

Does it have a red sheen on saturated parts?

Nope, not in my sampling of it. It sounds like you're hoping for some Yama-dori similarities.

Thanks for the answer.

Well, several Sailor inks have that sheen on saturated parts, like the standard Sailor Blue which I'm using currently, so there is a high chance that any new Sailor shows this property.

Understood.

That is why I stated that my nibs are fine point as a heads up. My nibs are (w/1 modern flex exception) are firm fines or extra fines. I don't see a red sheen on standard Sailor Blue or Sky High. YMMV, of course!

Your review prompted me to just play with this ink. It is a gorgeous deep, rich, blue.

Confirming it does have a beautiful red sheen. Remember that effect is paper dependent.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

Thank you, SamCapote! I knew that just because I couldn't see it didn't mean it wasn't there. You're posts inspire me to look deeper.

The posted sample is Rhodia #18/80g. Using a wet nib on Staples Bagasse seems as though there is a red sheen but honestly I feel a little suggestible at this point and am really not sure.

Still hoping you will do a chromatography and compare with Sailor Souten.

Sailor Sky High has rapidly become one of my favorite inks.

Here's some closeups of Sailor Sky High and Iro Kon-peki on Rhodia Webbie paper:

Sky High followed by Kon-peki (pls forgive my scrawl).

Is it possible...are Yama Dori and SKy High the same ink?

Hi,

Unfortunately not . . .

Below we have swabs of Sky High on the odd-numbered rows, interlaced with yama-dori. Swabs are from three to one passes.

Bye,

S1

Thanks for the information. That's disappointing, as Yama Dori is SO hard to get. Both lovely colors.

Thanks for posting a swab comparison, Sandy1. I thought there was another comparison of the two but could not find it. happyberet.gif

I too noticed beautiful glimmers of red. I was surprised because I've been using sky high on my Staples Eco Friendly notepad and got nothing. However, when editing a paper for a friend, I saw the sheen. She showed me her ream and found it was the Staples copy paper select, 20lb (75 g/m2). I've yet to see it sheen on any other of my papers (though I admit, my paper collection is quite sad).

Anyone know how sky high compares to Iroshizuku Tsuyu - Kusa?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
