Nakaya Piccolo Heki-tamenuri

Legal Eagle

Recommended Posts

Nakaya Piccolo cigar in Heki-tamenuri with two-toned medium nib. Purchased from John Mottishaw at www.nibs.com .

This pen is a beauty to look at; the urushi lacquer has such a gorgeous liquid crystal display-like sheen to it that my photos can't seem to capture. I also can't wait for more of the blue-green under color to show through as time passes. The nib is excellent as well. The line width is just right, it's smooth in all directions, starts up every time, and doesn't skip. Filling the pen with the converter is easy, peasy, Japanesey.

This one is a 10/10 in my books. Enjoy the photos!

Nice. I'm pondering getting heki when I finally get a Nakaya, as well.

Very nice. I have a neo standard in heki-tamenuri on order and your photos make me even more anxious for its arrival. Gorgeous.

So what's hiding in the blue kimono?

The blue kimono is the one that comes with the Nakaya pens. I purchased the purple one for $25 because I think it looks nicer and can be tied off.

Hi Legal eagle, nice pen. What paper do you use? Does it write without blotting through on the day-to-day use paper?

I use all sorts of different paper. So far it seems to write just fine on a day to day basis.

Holy smokes, another unbelievable Nakaya! I swear that in every Nakaya photo, yours are stunning by the way, hides a subliminal message that says "You Need Me..Buy Me." Simply, a gorgeous pen, but we expect that now. I think they call it being spoiled. Congrats, I hope you enjoy it very much.

Gorgeous Piccolo, Legal Eagle!

You know, if I were ever to pare down my pens to just one (as you did a couple of years ago, I recall -- and I was impressed), I would probably choose my Nakaya Desk Pen kuro tamenuri.

But I'm glad I don't have to make this decision.

The heki-tamenuri is beautiful.

I really don't mean to gush over all the Nakayas, but I really like them so much!

What a beautiful pen. Have not had the opportunity of using a Japanese pen, but I can see the attraction. What a wonderful presentation and that converter is beautiful. A good example of beauty on the inside....

Thanks for sharing.

Oh my, that's a stunning pen, beautifully photographed.

It's interesting to see that the section on yours is a somewhat different shape to mine and the heki finish is continued onto the threads. Looks much nicer and must be a dream to hold.

Where's that lottery win when you need it? (sigh)

Thanks! I used my girlfriends Cannon SLR camera. The Nakaya pens are a dream to hold, they're super light and very comfortable in your hand. It's funny though, I tend to hold the pen on the threads rather than the section.

Beautiful photography. I have a Portable Writer in Heki-Tamenuri and I relish using it each time as well.

Yes, the photos say it all.

That green undertone gives it that weathered copper look one sees on cathederals and such.

Thanks for sharing.

The weathered copper look you refer to is exactly why I decided to go with the heki-tamenuri.

Beautiful pen!!! I also have a Canon SLR .

I'm contemplating in the future buying a Piccolo, but I'm unsure of the size, I don't like small pens even if I don't consider my hands large. Do you have other pens to compare to in terms of size? I would really appreciate if you could show them.

Thanks for sharing I also have that gorgeous burgundy bag.

*picked myself up from the floor*

That is one beautiful pen! I love the idea how the green show more over time. Truly its a 'living' pen.

Congrats and enjoy it in good health.

Sorry at the moment I don't have anything to compare it's size with.

I think what I may do is post photos of this pen in a year from now showing the difference in color; should be interesting.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
