I find it a little darker than your scans suggest (maybe I use it in wetter, finer nibs) but I have to agree - it's another good one from Diamine.

Diamine Twilight and Chocolate are my "blacks". Not much shading but lovely colors. Twilight is darker for me than the scans -- it's quite saturated (for Diamine anyway) without any grayishness. I think of it as greenblueblack. More blue than green. Like a rich deep teal. I love it.

Hello Halden,

Yes. I posted a complete review for this ink about a week ago because it was one of my favorites and is quickly becoming my all-time favorite. Dtb has excellent behavoral characteristics and the color is a fantastic blue-black with nuance, depth and character... I just love it! I use it more and more with each passing day; as I said before, it has not only become my signature ink for signatures, but my signature ink, period. Thanks for the review- I'd like to see this ink get the attention it deserves.

All the best,

Another one to try. Intriguing point: the scans in this review are rather different to those in Sean's review.

ErrHmm - Should I do another Review?

It is good to see the diversity of opinion about this ink.

My mistake - I was thinking of Diamine Midnight. In fact I find Twilight a little more grey than your scan suggests, but still a good addition by Diamine - maybe a little drier than I like, and so not a regular user ink for me.

Oooooooooo ... thanks for that comparison Sandy1. I find that I still like to see comparisons in my own writing in the pens I love to use most, but I really enjoyed seeing the two colour swabs side by side. I honestly had no idea that Diamine Twilight was that dark. On my screen, it's a dead ringer for Tsuki-yo. Now I *really* can't wait to get my hands on the sample.

Hello Alex,

Yes, I noticed that too. Just for the record, I used the flat-bed scanner of my Kodak Office 6150, set on 300 dpi and the highest picture clarification/resolution settings, (JPEG format).

  • 2 months later...

I do hate to necro a thread but I did just pick some of this ink up. I do like the color, and this is a good review. I just have to disagree with your flow rating a bit. I have a particularly difficult writer and have found that this ink, in that pen, is noticeably finickier than with Aurora Black, which is an ink I would consider to be in the 9-10 range.

I cant disagree with the rest of the review, however. This is a particularly nice ink in broad nibs.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
