J Herbin Verte Reseda

Recommended Posts

My first attempt at an ink review. I apologize for the angle, my printer didn't take the paper down straight. I used Staples sugarcane-based filler paper "bagasse" - no weight is given but it is quite thin, but works well with fountain pens in my experience. The writing was visible on the other side, but no bleedthrough at all.

Thanks to alecgold for the ink & pen.

Thank you very much for you review! It is interesting, though, how your finding differ from mine. I have used Vert Réséda in a "M" nib Pilot Plumix. I find that the dry time is rather short, though that is on Rhodia paper. I also find the ink to be much lighter, with much more shading. I will see if I can post any pictures. Generally, I find this ink difficult to read after I have written with it because it is too light. This is probably more related to the pen/paper combination, though. I have a Lamy Safari on the way, so I hope to be able to use this ink more with that pen.

I looked at another review, and saw they had a very light colour as well. I used it with a glass dip pen as well, and found the same results. I find it's still slow on Rhodia and Clairfontaine though.

This ink, along with the Lie de Thé were given as a gift with a J. Herbin glass dip pen. I had such a problem with them on cheaper papers. I agree, with the dip pen, it writes nice and dark. I guess it's just the pen. I like the color of the ink, and it shades nicely with the Plumix, so I mixed Vert Réséda with 3 drops of Waterman Black in my pen, and it has turned to a dark turquoise that is very nice.

Nice first review, thanks. I love the colour, being a sucker for all or the blue/green/turquoise types of colours, and would like to have a colour like this to use in my diagrams, but the slow drying time would put me off. Most of my work is done on that same bagasse paper, so I would probably get the same results. I have recently started to use Clairfontaine square ruled notebooks, but it looks like it might be out for those books too. Unfortunately there is no way on earth I could use a dip pen for what I do, if that is what is needed to get the depth of colour.

Nice review of a nice color!

Have you tried it on any other papers or just the bagasse? I've noticed a lot of inks will be slower-drying on bagasse than on other papers, sometimes significantly slower.

I've used it on Clairefontaine and Rhodia - both slow, and I end up with the side of my hand covered. It may be that i write quickly and it still doesn't get a chance to dry properly.

Nice review! Good to see the ink getting used! Pity it hasn't been more useful for a lefty ;) but that's also why it is so good to have a place like FPN, where you can find reviews of so many inks!

Thank you very much for this review! It looks very much like Visconti Green.

Don't be conned. This review is the exception with regard to representation of the colour. Vert Reseda is a much lighter blue-green.

The colour, for me, is so nice that I will use it anyway. Just have to take my time!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
