My Inky Valentine

Recommended Posts

The February Ink Drop arrived here yesterday, and I've been playing with my new inky toys this morning. I thought I'd post a quick comparison photo for others to see. I was going to wait until the Goulets posted it on their site, but there's been a fair amount of conversation about it already today, so I thought I'd be safe posting it for people to see over the weekend, with the spoiler notice...

I've also posted a few thoughts over on the blog.

Disclaimers:

1. I have no affiliation with Goulet Pens, other than that my credit card starts to weep whenever I visit the website, and I'm rather certain Joseph's college fund plan contains my name somehow.

2. Photo was color corrected using a ColorChecker Passport and Adobe Lightroom 3 on a color-corrected monitor. To my eye, and on my monitor, the colors represented are dead-on true to life. I can't control what other monitors do, though, so please don't rely solely on my photo for color and shade determination.

You spoiler you! :crybaby: Haha, it's okay. This month's inks has generated a lot of talk already. We're going to 'officially' announce the colors on the 7th on our Ink Nouveau, though you have done a fine intro here yourself for FPN.

Man I love the Rose Cyclamen. Pops off the page, even though it's a page full of bright bright pinky colors.

Can't wait to try the rest. I'm really hoping that I will be able to flit, magpie-like, between all these different samples and not succumb to the temptation to buy any. TIME WILL TELL.

I'm so excited! I signed up last night (about this time) and it became official earlier today. I hope to have my ink samples by Thursday! Thank you, OP, for your visual of these inks.

Oh, good, I'm so glad you found it helpful. Samples are a fun way to become acquainted with inks without too much expense, and I personally like having someone else select them; that way I get to try things I wouldn't normally choose!

Have fun with them!

Oh, dear. PR Arabian Rose seems to pop up on my radar with ludicrous frequency lately. I've been resisting because average PR dry time + my left-handedness = FAIL but I think there's some kind of cosmic message going on here. I'll have to get some soon.

Thanks for posting!

Edit: I don't normally go for the pinks, but Noodler's Ottoman Rose may become an exception.

I just got my samples too and can't wait to try them. Thanks for the visuals..... The Ink Drop program is splendid because it's easier to let someone else choose the ink colors. My eyes go blurry from comparing all the colors after awhile.... Plus I like having just a small sample and not having to buy a whole bottle. Thanks Goulet Pens!!!

Same!

The only problem is, I can't use up all these samples in addition to the full bottles of inks I buy every month! :headsmack: My "box of inks" is starting to become 2 boxes...

No kidding. I finally had to take all the Pear Tree and Goulet Ink Drop samples and put them into a shoe box. They were getting out of hand.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
