Mont Blanc - Writers Exhibition

This week is a special one. There's a Mont Blanc Writers Edition exhibition going on in Dubai Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. My wife and I dropped by the Mall for a visit to see the display as I thought it would be delightful to see most of the MB Writer Edition under one roof. This exhibition is done together with McGrudy's Books where the literature of each author honoured by Mont Blanc's Writers Edition is displayed next to the dedicated writing instruments.

The exhibition display at the forecourt of Bloomingdale's within the Dubai Mall seems to have a lukewarm reception when I was there, perhaps I was fortunate to be in there between waves of crowds. Fortunate because I was able to have almost all the space I need to take some photographs of these exceptional pieces. Some of the displays were contributed by collectors while I presume that most of them are from the stock of a Mont Blanc boutique, just a few yards away from the exhibition ground.

The experience was exceptionally pleasant as it builds up when I proceed to the Mont Blanc boutique to pick up a Mark Twain which I have reserved earlier. I shall post up a review of this magnificent piece in the Pen Review section soon. Overall it was a great effort by Mont Blanc and McGrudy to team up to honour these great writers. Here are some pictures to share:

Fantastic photos and exhibit! But then the items are worthy of nothing less. Thanks for posting this. I am presently in third stage interview for teaching position in Al-Ain and doing all I can to get out of Spokane over to UAE.

May you and those you love, be always blessed with peace and never ending joy.

A nice tour. Thanks!. I like the C. Dickens and the way its understated gray (as in the US) or grey (as in the UK) takes off against the browns, greens, and reds of its display. Would have loved to see:

--A. Christie

--O. Wilde

--Voltaire

Wish they would do a thing like that as a moving show from botique to a botique world wide so everybody can enjoy these amazing pens.

Thanks for the post. It looked like a great exhibition. I wish I could see it...heck I wish I had a Montblanc boutique within a couple hundred miles...and its not like I don't live in the middle of civilization. Oh well, at least I can come to this forum and enjoy all of these great pictures.

For some reason, I thought I took pictures of all the exhibit, must have been too excited and all, I can't seem to locate my pictures of A.Christie! Nonetheless, it was breathtaking in person, and A. Christie was the highlight of exhibition, besides Hemingway.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

Hi Pen Nut,

Is there a book solely on WEs? I picked up a hardback copy of the Montblanc Collectables - a limited edition collectors guide from the Manchester MB boutique in Harvey Nicholls. However, whilst it is a great reference, it only goes from Hemingway to Faulkner (2007). As you are in the Manchester area, I can send it to you if you wish!

Hello,

Thanks for your very kind offer. I am due to go into Harvey Nics at some point this week to discuss a couple of repairs so I will ask if they have a copy of this catalogue available. If not I will be back in touch with you.

Regards,

Ian.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
