I know everyone has different tastes when it comes to ink, and peoples' tastes also change over time. I'm just curious about what ink is your current favourite and what it is that you love about that ink.

I'll even go first - my current favourite is PR Plum. I love the way the ink flows and the lovely rich plummy colour. It seems so warm and rich for winter.

I think my "favorite" is Noodler's Habañero (probably because I haven't tried Apache Sunset yet), but it's not the most practical day-to-day writing ink... I recently picked up a bottle of Waterman's Blue-Black and immediately liked it. The shading with a wet flexy nib is delightful and it's easy to read, business-friendly, flows well, and finally, it's cheap.

1. Parker Penman Sapphire (still have a few bottles left)

 

2. Iroshizuku Asa-gao (as long as I can still afford it)

 

I alternate between them, except when I get that uncontrollable urge to write with PR American Blue (it's...just blue) or De Atrimentis Steel Blue (love the shading)

It's like trying to decide which cat you like best!

 

I'm currently having a love affair with Noodler's Eel Turquoise and Noodler's Habenero (in my noodler's Flex :drool:). I did ink up my Sheaffer Touchdown with Sailor Blue/Black for the first time this morning and I like what I see...

My favorite ink depends on the pen I'm using. Lately, I'm using lots of Noodler's standard red in a Hero 329. That combination is almost perfect for me. It is my cheapest pen and ink combination, how odd.

 

Other favorite combinations are:

Lamy Safari's with Lamy Blue (my favorite blue)

VP with Noodler's Blue

MB 22 with MB Midnight Blue

Parker Vacumatics with Noodler's Blue

As of this second, my favorite is probably PR Avocado, but by the time I'm done writing this sentence, it'll probably have changed. Yep, I was right, now it's Noodler's Golden Brown. :ltcapd:

My "usual" favorite Herbin Vert Olive is under serious threat from Iroshizuku Ajisai, which is everything I ever wanted -- but couldn't quite get -- from Diamine Sapphire & Herbin Eclat de Saphir. In fact I keep one of my best pens inked up w/ the Ajisai all the time now, which is not something I can actually claim about the Vert Olive... uh-oh... :unsure:

Right now I'm liking my house mix of 5 parts Montblanc Bordeaux and 1 part Monntblanc Black. The little bit of black I added gives the Bordeaux a much richer look.

Right now it's MB Midnight Blue, but I have a new bottle of Aurora Blue that I haven't opened yet. When I do, it will probably be Aurora Blue...and every time I ink up with Iroshizuku kon-peki, I fall in love with it again. What's a girl to do? :)

Right now it is Tsutsuji, because it is bright and cheerful.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. Of my waterproof inks, I would choose Noodler's La Reine Mauve.

 

I would have much more trouble choosing one non-waterproof ink, maybe Diamine Amazing Amethyst, Or Pelikan Violet, or Pelikan Turquoise, Or Noodler's Turquoise, or Noodler's Blue Eel, or MB Violet. At this minute, I think it's Pelikan Turquoise. [subject to change without notice]

It is not possible for me to pick one favorite.

 

What ink do I use most? Violet Vote

What ink just makes me smile every time I see it flowing out of the pen? Tsuki-yo

What ink do I think is gorgeous but isn't something I can use every day? Yama Budo

What ink filled a niche I've been trying to fill for several years? Tsukushi because I have wanted a decent brown that didn't give me fits for years. Tsuki-yo because the latter is the closest thing to blue-black that I've ever really liked.

 

But not a single favorite ink.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
