Sailor Chu-shu

This is the last autumn 2010 ink that doesn't have a review on this board, or at least a few pictures. So, since I know lots of people are chomping at the bit to order some autumn 2010 inks stateside, I thought I should hustle and add this review so people can decide whether or not they want to get it while ordering the others.

Even after I completed this segment of the review, I was not happy. The scans did not accurately represent the way the gray fades and takes on some VERY lilac hues. So I tried taking a picture instead, and it is much better though still not perfect.

Interesting! I've tried gray inks before and found them too pale for regular use. I wondered if this was 'different' somehow. Still not sold on gray ink, but you've intrigued me :)

In a wet writer it can appear almost black, maybe the charcoal purple Tortoise describes. I really like the lilac gray you're getting - I need to run it through a few more pens to see if I can replicate that.

Is it me or you? (No offence ever meant)... but I see only "This image or video has been moved or deleted".

Please tell me that it's only me...

Eek! Sorry about that. I reorganized my photobucket albums and I forgot to update these links.

I can't edit my older post, but here are the pics.

Ahh, thanks. Nice review (better than the one I first saw without the shots, har, har ;) ). Just what I had expected. Very subtle. I have some of the others. Gotta get this one as well.

I happened upon some remaining bottles of this up on eBay from Temecula Pens. After the review, one of them (plus a bottle of Epinard, which is what I was after) is on its way to me. I think there are still a handful left.

I would have never thought a gray ink could look so nice.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

This is one GREAT ink. The color, to me, is like a slightly more grey version Hebin Poussiere de Lune. The flow and shading of Chu-shu are wonderful in my Jinhao X750, which can be finicky with other inks.

Thanks for reposting the pictures Saskia, and for your excellent review which matches my feelings about this ink.

When I first bought this ink I completely dismissed it. Using it again, I've been won over by its subtlety, it really has got something about it that sets it apart.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
