This color really reminds me of light shining through a glass of grape juice. I would guess the color of burgundy wine is not far off from that, though I wouldn't know, as I only enjoy cheap wine that tastes like grape juice. That's another post, for a later date. The ink seems a touch lighter to me on Rhodia paper than in my journal (which is a cheapish ring bound flip-top notepad from Target). The scan looks pretty accurate, just lighter than what I am seeing in person. This is probably because it is three o'clock in the morning and thus the lighting isn't the best right now. However...the color of the Pink Varsity comparison is way off in the scan from what I see in person. I dabbled in color correction again, to no avail. You'll just have to look at all the examples and get an average expectation if you are considering purchasing this ink.

Hi,

Many thanks for the latest look-see. I reckon its great to have more contributions on FPN. Strength through diversity & all that.

I am pretty interested to see the shading on this ink. I don't use so many inks of this general colour, so it is important for me to choose wisely. I thought that Herbin had a lock on the warm inks, so it's great to see a contender from PR.

I dearly love the Noodler's Burgundy, but PR Burgundy Mist may well be its replacement. (Shocking, yes?)

This is one of two PR inks that I liked initially, but have crossed off my list due to "turning color" issues. Both Burgundy Mist and Black Cherry faded to grey-black after about 6 months even though kept under even temperature, sealed and out of light conditions... I like all other PR inks, but there is just something about their red batches...

I had read about this, but I remained hopeful (and stubborn too, maybe?), after reading that they had possibly tweaked the formula. When did your inks do this? Was it before the assumed fixes?

Nice review, thanks.

I've tried this ink and thought it was okay, but there wasn't much nib lubrication (I was using a Japanese medium). How is it in the larger nib that you used for the review?

In the Lamy medium I thought it was pretty good. In the 1.5 italic, it was a bit drier than other inks I have used, but not bad. It isn't nearly as wet as a Varsity, but I don't think anything I have written with in my Safari has been.

thx for the review, shaylenwilliams!

one thing... on my screen the color looks more like PR Arabian Rose. my BurMist is much more brown-ish and a lot more saturated.

I have one bottle , freshly opened in June, and everything written with it is turning to a dull greyish hue. Shame, the color is nice. Lovemy51, thank you for your scan; my batch looks like the OP's, but I agree, the day I got it, I reviewed the forum because it looked much more to the idea of Arabian Rose my memory had. Batch discrepancies again, maybe?

  • 1 month later...

Today I filled out a Lamy Safari with PR Burgundy Mist and noticed that the color of the ink was not burgundy anymore but GRAY! Well, I emptied the pen and the bottle of ink down the drain. It is a shame because I really liked this ink but I don't think I'll be buying it again. Such a short shelf life for an ink is ridiculous! :gaah:

Certainly interesting PR fluid...turned color on me, too. I find that PR does blues very well.I've 5 really nice blue inks; American, Suede, Lake Placid,Naples, Tropical...and Sherwood....a great X-mas green btw. Reds aren't their strong suit...I gave all of mine away....to other foster - parents. Other companies do reds better...Diamine for one...Poppy's my other X-mas color this yr.,Amaranth, &... "Oxblut"... one great, understated, almost antique-eee red-brown, dried blood sort of looking ink. My 1.1 Safari's got a tank full at this moment. I use it liberally at home....without bandages. As 4 a brown- subtle red... Pilot's Iroshizuku "Horsetail "...whatever the translation is...shades wonderfully well in an italic broad.

This ink stains like hell, looks like my Parker Frontier might need hospitalisation. I'm trying hard to flush clean the pen, and get it to write properly.

Anindya.

A thorough dishwasher soap treatment seems to have resolved the issue. Certainly a most high maintenance ink.

As of now, both my Lamy Joy 1.1mm stub and Parker Frontier are on a healthy diet of Camel Royal Blue, a wonderful ink. :cloud9:

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
