Eversharp " Skyline" Ballpoint,

rhr

Recommended Posts

Here's an Eversharp "Skyline" with a blue-striped cap and a navy blue barrel, but here's the interesting thing about it. It has an aluminum section that has either been anodized, or particle-coated, or enameled a dark cobalt blue, and it has a simple curved-cone tip that holds a proprietary ballpoint refill that screws into the section. The section does not have to be removed to exchange the refill. The barrel has no imprints and no air-holes, and it shows no signs of ever having had a lever that has been removed, so it is definitely factory made and not an after-market adaptation or customization. So, Syd, what's the model name and catalogue number for this one?

I'm not an expert in any sense of the imagination. However, I also have come across a "Skyline" ballpoint, that did not have the aluminum rod. But the section narrowed so much, that no nib could fit in it. Therefore, it must have been a ballpoint. In other words, it looked just like this.

George,

It is an EVERSHARP CA (Capillary Action) Pen Model #25 or 25L (lady's) depending on size. The 25 series was in the Skyline design. There were Fifth Avenue CA pens too. They were the Models 26, 27 and there was a repeater (click) version in all metal, but that one did not have the screw in refill. These pens sold for $3.95 new inABOUT 1946-7.

Thanks, Syd. About the only book that shows the pen is the Gostony and Schneider ballpoint book, but it isn't called a "CA" there. It appears on the same page as some paper for "CA Repeater" refills, but I couldn't make the leap. Also, the refill pictured there is the spiral one that I have seen in the "Fifth Avenue CA" and "CA Repeater" pens, and not the straight, long one in my pen.

Do you want to cross-post your answer to the topics I started on L&P and Pentrace, or do you mind if I do it for you?

As he said I think the weird part though is the section is aluminum. I have lots of CA's none of the sections are aluminum, all of them are plastic.

Now that is odd in my experience. I've handled dozens of the Fifth Avenue CAs and a few of the Skyline variety, and I've never seen one with a plastic section. Here are my two CAs:

(Both have been retrofitted to take Parker refills.)

I'll have to look at mine a lot closer then. Maybe were having a semantic issue, the silver part I get is aluminum, the the colored "section" behind it I'm pretty sure in mine are plastic.

BTW, Richard i sent you two of my CA's to convert (with some extra parts if you remember) I was pretty sure those were plastic as well. One is usually in my daily rotation, but murphy's law today I took a Rotring 600 bp instead!

Nope, they were both aluminum. Celluloid barrels, aluminum gripping sections. The visible metal cone (part of the ball unit) appears to be nickel silver, not aluminum.

  • 3 years later...

Apologies for reviving an old thread but I recently acquired a Skyline ballpoint just like the one pictured in the original post (though in a different colour). The problem I have is that I cannot unscrew either the section or the refill by hand. Admittedly, I did not use a lot of pressure for fear of breaking something. Is there anything I can do (e.g. soaking , applying heat) to encourage section and refill to unscrew?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
