Montblanc Mark Twain Le - Review

Its here and I am SO excited.

I’ve been waiting for this pen for a long time and let me ease your suspense “I love it”-what a surprise ha ? LOL

MB is not changing course and is making medium to heavy weight pens.

Well this pen is a feast to the eyes!!!

Not overly flashy but not a shy pen either, it’s got presents for sure, what a stunner!!!

I am so excited I don’t know what to start with.

In first glance the resin looks black but in a slow more focused look you see its actually dark blue, I think blue is a great colour for this pen but I would like it to be less dark, not vibrant blue simply a little lighter.

The wavy pattern on the barrel and cap is really standing out, looks like there are water waves rushing up and down the pen.

http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u330/alfa170a/DSC01447.jpg

The most interesting part of the pen is the cap, looks like it has a crown on top of it, this looks like a motif taken from the higher grade POA pen family.

Having this pen sticking from the shirt pocket is not for the shy or faint of heart, plus add a big white star and this pen is quite a statement!!!

Piston button is metal made, I personally like resin buttons but it’s obvious that for the design of this pen metal button was the right thing to go with.

Mark Twain’s signature is etched on the caps bottom ring and not on the cap itself as done on many other WE pens.

I like it, it’s different and looks really good on this pen.

http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u330/alfa170a/DSC01465.jpg

Like most other WE’s this pen is bottom heavy due to the brass piston, feels comfortable to write with.

With the cap off this is no light weight pen but it is not heavy either.

http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u330/alfa170a/DSC01466.jpg

The piston is very smooth and the pen takes a good amount of ink.

Nothing more to add, a typical Montblanc piston.

The Jew harp clip yet again is different and unique, it sits secure in my shirts pocket and is both esthetic and functional.

http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u330/alfa170a/DSC01477.jpg

The nib has a rope with a knot etched on it. Each WE nibs has its own picture and theme to it. That’s one of the main reasons I love WE pens so much.

This rope is not exactly a unique or bold statement but who am I to question MB why they chose it.

http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u330/alfa170a/DSC01479.jpg

My Twain came with a F nib and I am glad to tell you all this nib is AWSOME!!!

My Mann and Vern with their F nibs are smooth but this one is smoother, it just flows effortlessly even on the rough paper I have at home.

Very nice feedback and I will have to compare it with the Vern to see who has better feedback.

A true pleasure of a nib!!!

http://i516.photobucket.com/albums/u330/alfa170a/DSC01482.jpg

Conclusion

The Mark Twain looks like it’s going to be a serious contender to “My Favorite WE” title.

Its stunningly beautiful, great writer with an exceptionally smooth and responsive nib.

If you are thinking about getting it my advice is stop thinking and GET IT!!!

I am sure you will love it just as I do.

PS-after few sniffs Tzutzik raised his tail with agreement, he LOVES this pen too.

Nautical theme, wavy blue for water, knotted nib (say that five times fast)' and the top, if I'm not mistaken is meant to represent the smokestacks on a stearn wheeler. I believe it plagiarism to put his signature on their band exactly where it appeared on Conklin. But I don't suppose Twain would care now.

"how do I know what I think until I write it down?"

Thanks for the review, Amir. I was actually waiting for your professional opinion before I buy my own. As always, the photography is great!

There have been concerns expressed about the size of the cap and the possibility that it would destabilize the balance when posted (a la the Dickens). What are your thoughts about this?

Congratulations, Amir! When are you going to engrave my name on it? I think my name should go around the cap, just above the ring where Mark Twain's name is. Don't you agree?

Hee hee!

I KID!

I'm enjoying this WE vicariously. Use it in good health!

Congratulations on a lovely addition to your family, and a great review as always!

My first thoughts when I saw the pen was that the top of the cap somehow represented the fence that Huckleberry Finn had to paint - but that is about all I can remember of that book, read about 55 years ago!

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

Make it count!!!

Cap isnt bigger then other WE's.

Its the same size as the Hemi's cap.

its about 7mm smaller then the Dickens cap.

The visual effect is far from the Dickens who seam to be dominating the entire pen with the Dickens.

The crown or chinmy on top cap is eye catching but it is not a dominating as the Dickens.

I like it.

The knot on the nib is awesome! We all know that Twain could really SPIN A YARN!!!

That's just too great!

That knot is where Mr. Samuel Clemens took his pseudonim (Mark Twain). The old steamboats in the Mississippi used a rope with some knots to check shallow waters. When the rope was 2 knots deep someone said "mark twain" which meant safe sailing.

Can you put it next to your Dickens for size? I never got my Dickens to post comfortably and I'm afraid this would be too short for me to use unposted, given my unusual grip.

Edited to add that I'd probably hold it just about where the section threads are.

Here GP are 4 pictures.

Tzutzik has demanded to model with the pens too so I add it to the post (he is such a fancy cat :meow: ).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
