Flow Rate:

• Both inks are OK.

• Pilot asa-gao is slightly greater.

Nib Dry-out:

• Both inks are OK.

Start-up:

• Both inks are OK.

Lubrication:

• Both inks are OK.

Pilot asa-gao is significantly greater.

Nib Creeping:

• None for both inks.

Staining:

• None after 3 days for both inks.

Clogging:

• Not seen for both inks.

Bleed Through:

• None on papers used for both inks.

Show Through:

• None on papers used for both inks.

• Both sides of the sheet may be used.

Clean-up:

• Both cleaned-up within a reasonable time with plain water.

My sincere thanks for probably the most scientific and thorough ink review I've ever seen! I have both these inks, and usually cannot distinguish one from the other on any of my stationery. Given that Jetpens sells the Asa-Gao for $28 and the EdS for $9, it's nice to have a low-cost yet "name-brand" alternative to the Asa-Gao.

This is one of the forty-five Comparisons that I plan to do for the 'One Of The Ten' group of Blue inks.

 

So I do not post the OOTT Comparisons only in the event of the two inks being 'equivalents' or such like. Unless of course, that's what they are to the viewer.

I think that as the inks are slowly reviewed and eventually compared, some 'Eureka'! moments may occur.

My primary intention is to provide Ink Reviews and Comparisons in as similar a fashion as practically possible: same papers, pens, text, same atrocious hand-writing, and unfortunately for some - the same Grocery List.

 

Two benefits are anticipated:

  • allow for the selection of lynch-pin Blue/s for one's array;
  • provide an even platform for discussion of different inks' properties, as additions to the Reviews & Comparisons. (YMMV and all that, but samples from six pens on four papers gives a pretty good idea of the inks' capabilities / limitations.)

(And I certainly hope that Members will embellish the threads.)

      Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy.
